what is this?

Kind of fuzzy picture, but I'm going with a Predator UAV:

It doesn't look quite right for the Long E-Z Design mentioned earlier.

Not to mention they're noisy as all get out (or at least the ones I've heard), and they apparently aren't the easiest or safest thing to fly:

John Denver's Last Flight

Just for the record, the people that fly those things don't like the term "drone", and they are no longer refered to as UAV's--they are now RPA's--Remote Piloted Aircraft. It wouldn't be any fun if the Air Force didn't change up some of its terms every now and then, makes us all sound like we are stuttering. "So you're with the UA---ahhh---RP----uhmmm, the Predators?" :(

edited to add: To the OP, those things are very quiet, not much louder than an RC plane. If it was a Predator, you wouldn't have heard anything from where you were.

This question is actually one that has spawned an entire "study" in cryptozoology. If you had been using a lower shutter speed you could have gotten the full effect of the phenomenae. I wont ruin the ending for you except to say that the answer can be found by Googling "skyfish" or "flying rods".

Might be some "rod" phenomena, that's what it kind of looks like.

Check this link out, it's pretty cool and gives you an explanation of the phenomena:

That's pretty much how they show up - you take a photo and they fly through at such a high speed and you just happen to catch it.

There's a few neat documentaries on the subject, too.

THANK YOU!

I have been trying to pull that info out of my brain all day. :)
