Endura Safari Sattelite reception

Recommended Posts

My unit seems to take forever to acquire satellite reception (4 mins). It is especially slow when mounted on my cup holder in my truck. I know its not directly in the open, but I have heard of other people's working much better it seems. I don't think I have ever had my bars full. Usually it is at 2-3 bars. After owning other gps units, that in my opinion were inferior in quality to the endura, I am thinking that something is not working quite right. However, I dont see anything I can change on it.

Are boot times of 1 minute normal? I turn mine on and it sits there for at least one minute before it does anything. Then another 3-4 before it acquires satellites.

I have an Out&Back but shouldn't be too different... Not sure if firmware updates help it connect to sats faster but once you have 2 bars the Gps is up and tracking. I was confused at first but after checking the sats page I saw that my accuracy was within reason. When you get a chance boot up the unit and go to the satellite page and see how long until it says it is tracking, unless you already did this then disregard what I said and get the firmware updates.

2bars = up and tracking and 3 bars is the norm after a few minutes. I checked accuracy at 2 bars compared to my garmin etrex and both were spot on. One other thing to mention is that almost all GPS-r devices take extra time to lock onto sats while moving and when turning on in a different area from where it was last shut off.

I have the Sierra, in addition to a few other GPSr's and have experienced the same thing you have. The solutions are painless.

If you haven't updated your GPS, please do so asap at Lowrance.com/downloads. Then, take your GPS outside and start it up and leave it to acquire the sat signals and leave it for 20-30 minutes. This extra time allows the unit to acquire information about the satelites that will improve the units "predictive" abilities which shortens future acquisition times FROM THAT LOCATION. If you leave that location relocate more than 100 times you'll need to follow this procedure again. You can shorten this time by getting your satelite fix on your GPS before you leave your current loaction and leave it on with your satelite fix until you get to your destination.

Please let me know if I can be of additional help by PM.

Be safe.
