Baud Rate & NMEA

Recommended Posts

I have a Magellan Sportrak Map GPS Unit.

Does any one know where I should set the Baud & NMEA at???

On set up it says Baud rate: 1200-4800-9600-19200-57600-115200.Which one should I use?

Same on NMEA: Off-V.1.5APA-V.1.5XTE-or V.2.1 GSA? Which one?

I live in Racine WI. If that helps!

Thank You very much for any help on this topic.

We don't have many finds but we sure enjoy Geochaching.

Hi Team Waxman;

The NMEA standard is ....

Baud Rate: 4800

Data bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

The software you are using in conjunction with your GPS may allow you to vary these parameters but this is the standard. As long as both your GPS and whatever you are communicating with use matching parameters you should be OK.

Hope this helps.

Always start with the latest NMEA standard then work your way down.

Start with NMEA V.2.1 GSA

It can take some playing with. Also, if you're using an actual serial port, you'll need to be sure the IRQ isn't being interfered with by another device. if you're using a serial to USB adapter, this shouldn't be an issue.
