kayakbird
Hi all, I'm scouting more MORC's. This is one of a very few that mention the underground stone and it doesn't seem quite right that the pipe cap was replaced with a GLO since there is a 1/4 corner not far away. Also suspicious of the 1948 date. What the heck do all the stamped letters stand for? THE SURFACE MARK IS A TH0683'U.S. PUBLIC LAND SURVEY DISK STAMPED R.W.T.N. S.S. T.N.R.W. S.S. TH0683' ON THE TOP OF A 4-INCH IRON PIPE THAT PROJECTS 1.4 FEET TH0683 Thanks, kayakbird Quote Link to comment
Bill93
It sounds to me like they used a GLO pipe cap with no field stamping added, but the casting had blanks to fill in something like R____W T____N S___S____ meaning Range number west of principal meridian, township number north of baseline section number, and section number. In the case of the corner of 4 sections they might stamp a number above and below each section line on the disk, and for a quarter corner the numbers of the adjacent sections. It would be just a little unusual for another agency to be using GLO disks, but hey, if you've got one laying around ... Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
No comment except for the obvious: Range West, Township North Township North, Range West S S would be Section, Section....meaningless without the actual numbers. Or maybe not. Quote Link to comment

The pertinent data has always been hand-stamped. Doesn't mean they don't exist... Quote Link to comment
