+guinea gal Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I live in WNY, and there have been a lot of these geocoin geo trails in our surrounding area, and even more coming up (you visit predetermined caches and stamp your passport or whatnot, and you earn a geocoin after your adventures). Recently, after Allegany Geo Bash V, I heard from a cacher of whose coin I had just logged, and he asked me about the AGTs, which we had both completed. Then he asked if I knew of any others. I have been having a lot of fun posting this info on our local geocaching website, on my own Facebook geocaching page, and to this guy who had asked me. But while researching these trails that I did know about, I stumbled across one I didn't know about (probably because I am in New York and this was in Georgia!) Which led me to wonder what other geocoin geotrails might be out there that I don't know about yet, and would love to share with friends. I try looking it up on Google and Bing, but the majority or responses I get concern the AGTs and the Star Spangled Banner Geotrail. Since I don't seem able to find that info on my own, who better to ask then other geocoin fans? If you know of one of these trails in your area, or even anywhere else, please post here and share with others, or contact me so I can add it to my list! I KNOW PA/NY/OH/MD/GA can't be the only states to have these. Thanks in advance for any help! ~gg Quote

+guinea gal Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 Thats what this thread is here for, to share the info. : ) The ones I have, besides the AGT and the Star Spangled Banner, are: The Enchanted Mountain Geo Trail, Long Lake Geocoin Geotrail, Susquehanna Sojourn, The Butler-Freeport Historic Trail Geo Trail, Georgia State Parks Geo Challenge, Allegheny River Wilderness Island Geo Trail, and although they aren't published yet, I also have the upcoming Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geo Trail, and the South Western Area Geo Trail (PA) mlrs1996, I am looking for Geocoin Geotrails. They are a series of caches placed for the purpose of earning a coin/coins. Well, they are placed with the purpose usually of bringing tourisim to an area. For instance THIS thread about the Allegheny Geo Trail (AGTs). 10 counties participated in it. For each county you had to find at least 6 of the participating caches and use the stamp inside to mark your passport (which you could pick up at any of the counties chanber s of commerce or send away for). When you completed a county you could bring your passport in to the office and get a trackable coin for that county. Once all 10 counties were completed the participants were eleigible for an 11th coin. I love my set and my friends and I had so much time traveling back and forth between NY and PA to complete these. Thats another reason I would like to look for more of these trail...they are a lot of fun : ) Quote

+Scarecrowe Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) I've accumulated quite a few geocoins at this point, however, the coins that mean the most to me are the ones I had to do caching to earn. There seems to be a growing number of geotrails around the country that have programs in place where, by finding a certain amount of caches or other requirements, you earn a geocoin at the end. The problem I'm finding is there is no current way to search for these programs. The few that I have found have been mostly by accident. I was hoping to compile a list here for myself and for other cachers to look at when planning extended geocaching trips. I'm looking for any and all geotrails that have geocoins as rewards upon completion. These can be current or projects in the planning stages. I'm in Pennsylvania so you'll notice the initial batch of geotrails I've found are in my area, so I'm going to rely on other cachers in other parts of the country/world to fill the gaps. I'll keep this list current based on new info/geotrails I find or anything that gets listed in this thread. +Scarecrowe Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) I'm adding in the Ohio geotrail now. I cannot find an "official" page for it so if someone has it, please let me know. @forthferalz: 1. The Butler Freeport Historic Geotrail is very much alive and ongoing The event you are referring to (I think) was a kick off event in May when the trail came out. Also, I know representatives go to area events from time to time and allow people to turn in their passports and receive coins at the events rather than having to go through the mail. 2. Looking through that thread, there are quite a few geotrails listed that are now inactive. If I'm overlooking one listed there I don't have that is active, please let me know so I can add it to the list. 3. What are you referring to when you say add photographs? The coins? Update: At the moment it is not letting me edit the original post so I'm just going to add the Ohio posting here until I get it straightened out.
