What makes a TB trendy? ?????

I'm thinking about setting my own travel bug on it's way.

But thaught Ide ask this question first.

What kind of things get you interested in helping a TB on it's way.

And for people to stay interested?

I like well thought out storylines and/or interesting goals. Markwell's Geoffrey is a good exampe of an intetesting traveler IMO.

Ill move travelers that are out "just to move around", but I really like watching the interesting ones. I would like to point out that it seems to cut both ways. If a traveler is 'allowed' to move to just any cache, then anyone can move it, but if its "going west to XXXX" and the nearest westward cache is 30 or 40 miles then Im probly not going to move it. Or if your looking for (Insert specific object or location here)... And I have no idea how to get there icon_frown.gif, Im not going to be able* to help it along.

So I guess my point is that interesting/specific goals are nice, but may cut down the number of people who can/will move it.

* If I cant help a traveler toward its goal I will not move it, but not everyone does this.

Ps- Make sure you print off your travelers goal(s) and attach them, it helps finders know where its going.

Man I wish the search was working. I had to manually go through the Travel Bug Forums to find this thread, and I even keyed in the exact title of the thread and had it search subjects only. icon_rolleyes.gif

I still stand by my answer there:

With six bugs and one set of pre-bug travellers, I'll slide in with my opinions...

I set up Illuvian with a specific mission: to bring to light those old caches that are still active. Those would be caches that I would want to visit. But of all of my bugs, I'm the most discouraged by him.

Geoffrey was my first, and people seem to be having fun with him, but even with a specific mission, he's just not as much fun as the others.

Scoob and Shag are really fun, just because of how long they've been out there. I think the other thing that makes them more popular is the shared sense of cultural history we have. With the thread in the main forum seeming to point us as majority GenX, post 30, we grew up with Shaggy and Scooby. They're pretty cool.

By far, though, my favorite bugs have been the Superfriends. Aquaman, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are having a great time racing from the four corners. Add to that the same cultural history that Shaggy and Scooby have and other people seem to have really gotten in to the act.

Cute, photogenic characters are OK - but I think existing storylines (not like Geoffrey and Illuvian) help the bug to travel and have fun. And of course, the more pictures the bug has, the better.

I've since added TC, Mitsuko, Racer X and Jocko to my hoard of bugs, and one more pending. I'll be going with the collective identity thing this time - a known story.

I have 4 sons, and I've sent 4 travel bugs out on a race to the 4 corners of the US.

Check them out here.

Not sure how much interest they'll get, but one of them has been picked up twice within the last 4 days!

Yes, We're sending out all seven of Snow White's dwarfs, since she left them for the prince. They are going out on their own vacations, hoping to travel the U.S. going south to DisneyWorld, then over to DisneyLand and back home, which is going to be in the woods here in central PA. After that we want to post a scrapbook of their travels, before we send them on their next mission. We don't want them to be sitting around, so we're hoping people will post photos with notes to accomplish this. Originally, we were just going to have them travel to TB Hotels, but we don't think they'll be able to see as much along the way. Does this idea sound like a decent one??? icon_eek.gif

Yes, we're hoping to have their home in the woods in place by next weekend. We're still deciding on how to build their home...It will be an original design, that's for sure...If you've visited "The Horsetrail Bunker", it'll definitely be a find, at least in size and location. icon_razz.gif

I found an interesting TB. It is called Shad's School of Fish and the story asks that everyone who finds it add a fish to the line. It also asks that each fish have some sort of tag with the cachers name that left it. I liked this idea and will keep it on my watch list.

In our area, we had some fun with this bug:

http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=3131

Basically, we all tried to keep the bug away from a certain cacher...e.g. Moun10Bike but within a certain set of miles.

I just missed getting tghis bug by mere...I mean MERE minutes...a local caching couple beat me to it, but I manage4d to to get it and move it later on. I put it in one of my North Bend area caches.
