+VirtKitty
Greetings.... I'm going to be visiting Helsinki this October to see my Carolina Hurricanes open their NHL season with a couple of hockey games on October 7 & 8. While in a new country, you know I will have to get in a wee bit of caching. I'd love to meet some local cachers and was wondering if anyone would be interested in meeting up for dinner somewhere. I'd like to set this up as an event, it's always good to get a smilie. As I'm from out of town, I was hoping perhaps some locals could suggest places to eat. I will be staying at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Helsinki and was thinking of doing this either October 5 or 6. Thoughts/suggestions anyone? Quote Link to comment

I have had some pleasant meetings in restaurant Vltava, they offer a cabinet for free (as long as folks eat and drink something). The cabinet seats about 30 persons. Vltava is located just across the railway station, about 300m from Radisson Blu. Br. stebu Quote Link to comment
+aku506
I'm not from Helsinki, and I can't help, but I sended your post to more active forum. I think your post get more readers in it. Aku506, Pori, West coast of Finnland. Quote Link to comment
+Giliad
Welcome to Finland VirtKitty! Vltava is a good idea. As Stebu said, it's right next to the Helsinki main railway station and therefore easily accessible for most people. You can check the place here: http://www.vltava.fi/frontpage_vltava.html There are other options as well if you don't find the menu appealing. Just let us know and I'm sure we'll be able to come up with other suggestions. Also, kudos to aku506 for cross-posting this in the Finnish forums. You'll get a lot more visibility there. You probably won't be able to understand very much of it, but at least you might get some laughs with google translator PS. I'm interested in attending. At the moment my calendar looks like I actually might even be able to Quote Link to comment
+rixu
I'm also interested, even though I can't say anything certain yet since the calendar has it's own mind and there may always be babysitter issues Quote Link to comment
+Gandal491
Hi VirtKitty, I'm a Brit living in Helsinki, and it's always interesting to meet cachers from other countries, exchange stories, talk about hides, swap coins and bugs. If you manage to get an event set up for October 5 or 6, count me in! Meanwhile, here's a good list of Helsinki caches: Caches for tourists in Helsinki It may not be up to date with the newest caches that have appeared recently. +VirtKitty
Greetings... Vltava sounds good to me. Although they do mention sauerkraut on the menu a bit too often, I think I can find something . I might need someone over there to help me with reserving a cabinet for us. Let me check with my friend that I'll be traveling with (a non-geocacher) to see if she'd prefer one evening over the other. VirtKitty Lisa Quote Link to comment

Are you going to be at the event "Binaryflow Has the Numbers... 1000" GC2CERQ on Tuesday, 24 August 2010?? I'd LOVE to pick your brains about caches in Helsinki! Quote Link to comment

+VirtKitty
Greetings... I've decided on Tuesday, October 5. I'm going to say at 6 PM, unless I get told I should schedule different. Now, I've got a favor to ask. Can I get someone to help me by contacting the restaurant to reserve a cabinet?? SirAvidius, I don't have a problem with you dropping in, but the restaurant does want to earn some money from us. So clearly you'll just have to buy me a drink when you drop in.... ;-) ;-) I'm just KIDDING!! Quote Link to comment

Now, I've got a favor to ask. Can I get someone to help me by contacting the restaurant to reserve a cabinet?? Hi Lisa! I had to arrange another meeting in Vltava, so I took the liberty to reserve the Havel cabinet for you on Oct 5th starting from 18:00 (six pm:) The deal is that if we (together) spend over 250€ then there is no charge for the cabinet. The easiest way (IMHO) is to go down one floor and order your meal at that counter, this way we can each eat and drink whatever pleases us (and avoid sauerkraut). The cabinet has room for 28 diners, but I think that not all attendees arrive at the same time. And of course the two restaurant floors below the cabinet can be used, but we can't reserve them. Sir Avidius and other teenagers, I'm sorry, but I think that you will not be permitted to enter the restaurant. I quess we can arrange some way for you to meet Virtkitty and sign the logbook. But you can try ("meeting a long lost cousing, who is in Finland for just one night" Timo (the nick is stebu) Quote Link to comment

You're the best and I'm very grateful for you taking care of this for me. Sounds like we're all set. Just over a month to go.... I can't wait!! Quote Link to comment
stebu
Hi Lisa! Would it be possible to start the event at 17:30 (I already changed the reservation)? The restaurant has a stricter age limit after 18:00, so the teenager could come at 17:30 for half an hour. Then they would be escorted out and adults could start wining and dining. If this is OK with you, could you add this into the listing, please. Timo Quote Link to comment
+SirAvidius
Hey, is it okey, i come first and when u come i log. Then u can go in. Okey?? Quote Link to comment
+VirtKitty
Greetings... Timo, thank you again for taking care of the restaurant reservation update. I've updated the listing with a note saying we'll start at 5:30 for the teenage crowd. SirAvidius, I look forward to meeting you and am glad we could arrange things where you could attend. Is it October yet???? Quote Link to comment
