+StarBrand
Sometimes good natured 'ribbing' is misinterpreted as negativity. For the most part there are a very high number of folks willing to help out around here. But you do have to have a bit thicker skin sometimes. Learn not to react to everything. Sometimes it is just best to walk away from a thread. I have found that a few folks are masters of argument and are willing to debate any word typed. Not worth the effort.... Stick with the helpful crowd. Quote Link to comment

One thing is certain: no matter the tone of a forum, from time to time someone is ALWAYS going to pop up and ask "why is everyone so negative here?" I consider the question extraordinarily hostile. The question itself is negative. It puts regulars on the defensive -- especially if it's not true. It's likely to start trouble -- especially if it's true. It's like walking into a neighborhood pub or a cafe full of locals and saying, "why is the wallpaper so horribly ugly in here?" Why would you do it? No good can come of it. Quote Link to comment

Sorry Mom, sometimes I'm going to say something negative if I feel strongly enough that it's justified. There's a huge difference between disagreement in civil discourse and negativity. I know that, and you know that, but there are also a lot of people that come into forumsm ask a question, then when they don't get the answer they want they, or others accuse those that respond as being negative. Having participated in forums since the early usenet days (before the great newsgroup renaming) one of the things I've noticed about online forums is that the tone of the forum is dictated by it's participants. If a particular forum seem hostile, or tame it's because that that actively participate in the forum the most have made it that way, and in fact, want it that way. I remember a particular usenet group that many often though was hostile so someone created a .nice version of the same topic. Man, was that boring. I have also noticed that when someone comes into an active forum and states "I don't like the way you are running your forum. You should change it to how I think it should be." they're probably going to get a lot of resistance. Quote Link to comment

Folks are much more polite and come at subjects from a much more mature perspective here. There are also a lot of silly people, and a lot of what you read might be inside jokes, or joking back and forth in other ways. I agree - that would be blasphemy! The code itself is as simple as it gets. The image is in that gibberish block of data. If you want to replace it, just create a JPEG (75 x 75 pixels) and use an online tool to encode it in base64 and place it between "data:image/jpeg;base64, and the "; at the end of that line. +DragonsWest
I know I've had the urge to rant and have probably done so. For blowing off steam, I do apoligise. My best advice is to avoid the threads which have the negativity. Sometimes, when I feel there's too much venting, I'll start a thread like: "I had this really great caching experience..." and give people a chance to chime in with their own positives. It's the best way to stave off the Blue Meanies. Quote Link to comment
