Ohms Machine
So I logged on to geocaching.com today (4th of July) and noticed they have a web layout. Looks real nice but what happened to being able to find caches by looking on a map? Does anyone else find caches in there area the same way? Quote Link to comment

+Gitchee-Gummee
find caches by looking on a map? Still can. The individual map on the cache page has changed, but we never used that anyway. Many others have remarked about it. Apparently each has their own route to access maps, eh? We have always opened a map from GC.com homepage [search]>"Search for geocaches with Google Maps" near the top of the next page. Then scrolled to where-ever we wanted. Quote Link to comment
+taylor12k
yeah, this is a total shame. it's how we would always find caches nearby ones we were browsing, or to log a trail of caches after we got home. i'll have to get used to doing it a different way now, i guess... never see why features get removed if they aren't causing problems.. but, maybe that was...? anyway.. a downgrade in my book.. sabrefan7
Im not sure but I think I moved my hand 2.5 inches to the left to click on the link. That WILL take some getting used to Quote Link to comment

+swfirefly
I used to find nearby caches by using the map too. If you click on the geocache icon on the map, a link to nearby caches will pop-up. Quote Link to comment
7rxc
What I noticed is that it is working again... for a while only the text link worked. Now I notice is that the map is hot all the time... no more clicking on it, just drag the cursor around and zoom in and out... only other item is that it seems (for me) to default to terrain instead of map view... As for searching, that is best for the hide and seek a cache or the use Google maps to see ... Assuming you are logged in of course. I like it. Doug 7rxc Quote Link to comment

As others have pointed out, you can either click the Geocaching.com Google Maps link on the left, or click on the treasure chest and get your link from there (link on the left is one step, the other is two steps... guess which is quicker). You'll really like the new map when you go for a cache that has parking or other child waypoints. Quote Link to comment

+The Ravens
I used to find nearby caches by using the map too. If you click on the geocache icon on the map, a link to nearby caches will pop-up. I don't remember that being in place after the prior update but I'm glad to see it is an option to find nearby caches now. The map is all that I could ask for now. Thanks GS! Quote Link to comment
+Crafty Turtle
I have always found the map difficult to find from the front page, so I bookmarked the map page (once I found it) and I always use that tab on my bookmarks bar. Quote Link to comment

No, actually I don't although almost every cache I am going for has additional waypoints. The map is too small and I regret that I cannot enlarge the map - if I open up other maps, the additional waypoints are not visible. Some arbitrarily selected examples to demonstrate that the map view is not really helpful as the map window is so small http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...41-41285b939732 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...82-1f9a7e0abd66 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...cf-633f0413cbd7 Cezanne Edited July 5, 2010 by cezanne Quote Link to comment

cezanne
So, you actually LIKE the new map... you just wish there was a full sized version of it, is that right? Let's put it that way: A full sized-version would be of potential use to me. The current version is of no use to me, but I do not mind its presence. In any case, in areas where caches do typically have several additional waypoints, the new map is not that much of an advantage as you suggested in your posting to which I replied. Moreover, I rather would like to have the default map mode configurable to "map" and leave "terrain" as an option. Cezanne Edited July 5, 2010 by cezanne Quote Link to comment
+roziecakes
I'm curious... does this new change have to do with Google updating their Maps API? Quote Link to comment
