Elevation Profiles

Recommended Posts

Wow. I've been looking for a long time at various tools, online and apps, for doing this -- and Google Earth's latest release (5.2) does it beautifully:

Draw a path by hand. Or let Google draw one for you with driving directions. Or import a track from a GPX file Right click on the route, then select Show Elevation Profile. You can drag over the profile to see where the steepest bits are and it puts an arrow on the map for you, shows you the grade, everything I wanted.

It don't get any easier than that!

... fitness data (heart rate, cadence, power, etc.) ... displayed in that pane, too. ...You can drag & drop GDB, NMEA, and a few other formats now, too...
Do you know anyone who worked on this directly? ;) Thank them for me! Edited by lee_rimar

I hadn't ever been disturb by the time viewer.

After having used it for a few days now, I'm really pleased with the elevation profile. It does just about everything I want and is considerably more convenient to me than GPSVisualizer, Bikely, and other tools I've used.
