+user13371 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Wow. I've been looking for a long time at various tools, online and apps, for doing this -- and Google Earth's latest release (5.2) does it beautifully: Draw a path by hand. Or let Google draw one for you with driving directions. Or import a track from a GPX file Right click on the route, then select Show Elevation Profile. You can drag over the profile to see where the steepest bits are and it puts an arrow on the map for you, shows you the grade, everything I wanted. It don't get any easier than that! robertlipe Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 If you have GPS or data files with fitness data (heart rate, cadence, power, etc.) that data is displayed in that pane, too. You can drag & drop GDB, NMEA, and a few other formats now, too... Quote
+PDOP's Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 The interactive elevation profile is sweet. FWIW I've seen a problem with ploygon rendering and DirectX (also reported here). Switching to OpenGL is a work around. Quote

Thank them for me! Edited July 4, 2010 by lee_rimar Quote
+Cache Liberation Front Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Doe the new version allow you to disable the Time Viewer? I was shocked when a few versions ago they removed the toggle to not show the Time Viewer. Ugh. Quote
+user13371 Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 I hadn't ever been disturb by the time viewer. After having used it for a few days now, I'm really pleased with the elevation profile. It does just about everything I want and is considerably more convenient to me than GPSVisualizer, Bikely, and other tools I've used. Quote
