+patw
OK, we've seen light houses, church steeples, smoke stacks, water towers, and what-not serving as bench marks. I hereby submit RD2552 in Portland, OR as the most aesthetic and perhaps the oddest bench mark reported to date. (And Mt Hood ain't a bad back drop, either!) . . . . patrick & shirley patrick & shirley Quote Link to comment
+embra
Don't remember seeing any of those in the Surv-Kap catalog. Here's the click-thru. Max Often wrong but seldom in doubt Quote Link to comment
+Web-ling
HC1122 is pretty unusual. The disk is in the center of a Stonehenge replica. Quote Link to comment
+Kordite
This probably isn't the neatest or most unique but I haven't been at this long enough to find anything better. . . KU4664 I found this one in Long Beach, New York. It is apparently an armored cover which protects the actual benchmark underneath. Next time I'm in the area I'll take an allen wrench so that I can remove the cover and get a look at the actual survey dsk. Quote Link to comment

HunterDiver
Not too odd or special, I was just amused by how carefully hidden this survey disc was...NOT! http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.asp?PID=AA6690 Mike Quote Link to comment
+happycycler
That "X" might work for controlling low altitude areial photos? I would think that it would show up. But is that still done? Quote Link to comment
Z15
X marks the spot. They paint them so they can locate them on the photo. Quote Link to comment
zdv
Found an interesting one the other day: OY0929. It is a mast on top of the "Experimental Breeder Reactor #1", which was the first place in the world to produce electricity from atomic energy. So basically it's the world's first nuclear reactor, which is now some kind of tourist site (I think). http://www.asme.org/history/roster/H039.html Quote Link to comment
