+Agent Okie
Greetings fellow Benchmarkers! I am new to this concept as I learned about it this morning from another site, Where's George.com. I am a real estate associate (thus the name, Agent Okie ) and just recently learned about surveyor markers. I read the background, checked out the faqs, viewed the last 1000 pictures and I am really interested. I did a search for my zip code and discovered that there were 25 markers in my town and only two of them have been logged! I also discovered that two of them should be less than 1/2 mile from my house. I do not currently own a GPS nor do I see the funds becoming available for one in the near future. Several of the markers seemed to be coordinated near the road or railroads, so I think I should be able to find them. However, I am sure that this can't be that simple. Any ideas or tips for a newbie like myself?? Thanks for any help you can provide! I will be adding a signature soon! Quote Link to comment
Cholo
You don't need a GPSr, especially in a town that you're familiar with. Check the location directions carefully and the original data. Adjusted coordinates are accurate, scaled ones may not be so accurate. For a good map go to www.lostoutdoors.com. For more answers use the search box at the bottom of this forum. +GEO*Trailblazer 1
From the data sheets you can usually find them fairly easy, but when it has been a while some times it takes a metal detector a GPSr and a whole lot of smarts to figure em out.good luck with your hunting.Look for water tanks Spires,Microwave towers, masts, those are real easy to find. +Agent Okie
I appreciate the tips. I will log the two towers first, then the bridge ones. The railroad has been in Claremore since the late 1800's, so I'm pretty sure the markers near them are still being used. Thanks again! I will be adding a signature soon! Quote Link to comment
