Question about markings ...

Does anyone know what these markings respresent? I found them on the maple tree referenced in the description to reach the azimuth mark for KV3863. (It's suprising that they would still be there after 34 years.)

The only person that can answer this is the person who did this. I don't see any notes in the description that says this was done in 1969. It looks more recent then that to me.

Thanks, Mike. I was thinking that it might be some sort of standard surveyor's notation and was curious about the meaning. It's the first time I've encountered anything like it in the field.
