RACooper
Please someone with more professional experience take a look at BM0988. I have found a web page here that records the history of the courthouse and clearly shows that the original courthouse, recorded as a mark in 1933, was destroyed in 1955 and a new courthouse built the same year (which is still there in downtown Hempstead). My question: Is the TexasEscapes page, with the history and pictures contained there, enough to submit to Deb Brown as destroyed? Thanks! Z15
Yes, I think if you could send that image with the details below from the web site and a today photo of the current courthouse to Deb Brown she would concur it was destroyed. On the other hand you could send in a recovery report as not found. Then add text to the fact that is was "Razed" in 1955 and a new courthouse built. That way people could see the history. The report will just say destroyed and likely not include any historic info. Mike Survey Tech (Retired) Quote Link to comment
+Kewaneh & Shark
I would agree with ElCamino and suggest that you proceed with both of his suggestions. Make the report to the NGS that the monument (courthouse) has been destroyed, and report it as not found to document the history. Keep on Caching! (and Benchmarking!) - Kewaneh Quote Link to comment

Is the NGS database an appropriate place to store history? Isn't it supposed to be a database of valid, usable marks? I don't have a problem with history, there is an appropriate place for it, but why shouldn't a destroyed mark not be logged as destroyed to allow it to remain in the working database?
