ashnikes Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 picked up a travel slug today, just curious what the difference is between this and a travel bug. Quote
ashnikes Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 A Travel Slug is a type of Geocoin. well this geocoin is attached to a doll, and there was another one in a cache today attached to a toy turtle, i suppose the travel slug is cheaper than a bug or something? Quote

Nope. Not cheaper. The Travel Slug is just a coin that happens to have a hole in it. The hole makes it easy to attach something to the coin, so those owners decided to add a little something to their coin for fun. Quote
Keystone Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I am moving this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum to the Geocoin Discussions forum. Quote
BCProspectors Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Typing travel slug into Google and selecting the first hit takes you to a page which sells Travel Slugs cheaper than a Travel Bug and claims they are a cheaper alternative to Travel Bugs. So someone who wants to save a couple bucks but still have fun with Travel Bugs bought one and attached it to something. Quote
+Bhob Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 they are both trackable items, and they work exactly the same way they both have public ID codes that start with "TB" they both have an individual page on GC.com (once activated) you log them exactly the same way (retrieve, drop, post note, etc) there is no reason that a trackable geocoin can't be attached to an item (or vice-versa) there is no reason that a trackable dogtag cannot be set free with nothing attached to it there are many other types of trackable items GeoGems, stickers to put on your vehicle, patches to sew onto your jacket, the list goes on but they are all trackable items, and thus work exactly the same way on the GC.com website Quote
+fairyhoney Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I LIKE to see items attached to any kind of traveler. In My humble oppinion, it makes it easier not to get misplaced ~ unless, of course, the item gets separated from the tag or coin ( sometimes it does happen intentionally or not) Quote
