ArtMan
Please visit the page for HV4442 - Washington Monument 1913. I'll admit, it didn't take much work to find, so I'm not proud of an exotic catch. No, I'm inviting you to check a couple of links in my log entry. They will lead you to the National Geodetic Survey's web page on how they did measurements on the top of the monument in 1999, while it was covered with scaffolding. Pictures, too. By the way, have you logged any marks in famous places? This might be a good place to chime in. Washington Monument benchmark page Quote Link to comment
+Alan2
I don't know if it's famous, but it brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. 1938 and 1964 New York World's Fair time capsule which I turned into a virtual cache before Benchmarking became a "separate" category. Alan Quote Link to comment
+travisl
This benchmark was last (and first) observed in 1980. I was there this weekend, and I found the stadium, but there's no flag in the middle of the domed roof any more "Why don't you just ask somebody?" "No, no. I've got a map. Don't worry about that." +Alan2
Artman: I checked out some of those Washington Monument pictures - very interesting and well done. I would have loved to be on top by the point when they tok the measurements. I'll be in DC next week for a couple of days. Should I check out their accuracy?? Alan Quote Link to comment
