Romattman
Try Wal-Mart ... Garmin ETREX for under $100. I use one .. no probs. Oh, I almost forgot ... you have to buy the data cable seperatly from same store. So .. just a little over $100. Good Luck Quote Link to comment
+B Family
Be very careful of the lowest price units... you want a GPS that you can also connect to your computer. The good old yellow Garmin eTrex is a low price unit, but since it still uses that old serial port to connect to the computer you may on spend $80 of the unit and then you will spend another $30 for the special cables so you can upload a gpx file... better option to be a USB compatible unit to start with. +Telecacher
Be very careful of the lowest price units... you want a GPS that you can also ... This is how it starts. Next thing you know, the starving student goes from wanting that "cheapest gps I can find" to looking at a multi-hundred dollar unit. Quote Link to comment

Since the Etrex only uses only the serial connection, it's easy to build a cable on you own. You'll only need an old RS232 cable and a RS232 to USB converter. A lot of people use DIY cables with their Etrex. Edited June 29, 2010 by ESLEagleEye Quote Link to comment
