Hike this Saturday?

Hello everybody! It's been awhile since I posted here. How have you been? :)

I was thinking about maybe, possibly hiking up to Aix and Pains this Saturday to check on my cache. I just did a quick check to find any recent trail reports but found none. I'm pretty sure the snow leaves the area pretty early in the spring, but this year may be different. Anyone care to make this trek with me, or have a better idea?

We plan to do Mt. Aix sometime this summer. But just to play it safe, we will probably give it another month to make sure we aren't slogging through the slick snow on that steep hillside.

Alright, well when you decide to go GrnXnham, let me know if you don't mind. I'd really like to head up there with another person or persons. If your ever wondering if anybody else would be interested...this guy always is. Just FYI. Take care

I would love to do this one later in the summer. I need to spend some time getting into shape first! Haha! Our area has amazing hills and mtns with some great caches so I'm working on building up my strength and endurance! I'll keep a watch out on here for an upcoming hike!

I would also like to do this one later this summer (after GeoWoodstock!) and would love to go with all of you. (Hi Glynnis!)

Do you want to make this a July AHOTM?

We could go ahead and set a date--maybe something like Saturday July 17th? Maybe the snow will be gone by then?

If we plan this out a month, maybe more people won't have the day already booked.

Making this an AHOTM sounds good to me. :D

This still leaves my Saturday open. hmmm... maybe I'll go get those Sugarloaf caches. I haven't cached is awhile, I wonder if I still know how to load co-ords in my GPS.

Og, we can't hike this Saturday, but with the expected good weather this weekend, we are planning on hiking up Mt. Washington (GCMYA0) on Sunday if you are able to hike on that day and want to join us.

I sorta said I was interested before I read the cache page and logs. Yowzer! :D But sure, let's run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

AHOTM - Saturday, July 17. Challenging 12-mile hike in vertical terrain to Aix & Pains. Be prepared, this will be the hardest AHOTM yet and not for the timid.

Who's interested?

Yeah, it's a tough one but the two of us are in.

I agree. Best to read the cache page before committing on this one.

I'm in as well, Abby.

Mt. Washington sounds great, GrnXnham! Thanks for the invite. I'm in on Sunday. What time shall we meet and will you be bringing a dog?

This is all coming together.

Just may combine this into a combined HOTM/AHOTM/Off week Hike. I'm going to need a good stress reliever and this looks like a good one to tackle.

Ya know, we could always make the Aix hike an overnighter.

Just throwing it out there.

In that case, I'd need to drop out. I'll be house-sitting and dog-sitting that weekend, can't be gone overnight.

I am throwing my name into the hat for the Mt. Aix hike. Any suggestions on wether to get there the night before and if so any good suggestions on where to "camp" it at?

You could camp at the trailhead. If you'd like more "civilized" camping, you could stay at the Bumping Lake campground.

Either way, camping the night before isn't a bad idea.

Interested?

YES

Will I make this one NO!

A recent driving trip to California left me with chest pain on elevations above 4,000. A couple of passes were at 5,000.

I am really bummed this summer.:D

I may try a small hike tomorrow below 600' ele.

I'm confused. Which date is being talked about here? If it's this month, I'm out. Too many prods in the fire.

I'm assuming the date we're talking about is July 17th

I am certainly interest. I was looking at the cache page and the area after we chatted on Sunday. I have already put it on the hike list for the summer. Might as well do it with a group of great people!

Yes it is the 17th of July and I as well will be arriving there late Friday afternoon at the TH for the party errr...I mean hang out and wait for the members of the hike to show. Looking forward to it!

I went ahead and reserved a campsite (no. 46) at the Bumping Lake Campground for both Friday and Saturday nights. I figure I will be pretty sore and tired  after the hike and driving 4 miles back to the campground is going to be much easier than driving all the way home.

After reading your post I realized that that was an excellent thought and idea. So I went ahead and reserved campsite #60, which is a two spots away from you LandRover. Looking forward to an excellent hike guys!

And I reserved site 61 for Fri/Sat. It's a party!

Now to get out of house-sitting those two nights...

I just booked site 47 for Friday night. I'll have to head back to Seattle after the hike so won't be staying Saturday night. Looking forward to it!

I was going to book 062, but $32 is a bit steep since I sleep in the back of my car anyways. Maybe I can con one of ya'll to let me use an extra vehicle permit...

Ill figure something out anyways  this is looking better and better, can't wait!

Good. I have one foot in on this one. I have some at home maintenance that must be met first.

Well Love mentioned that she is only staying for Friday night, so maybe you can talk her out of her Saturday night pass. Being it is a weekend, you pay for both nights even if only staying for one night. Just a thought... Either way it will be a great time. So what do people who are doing these kind of hikes, "party" with the night before a hike like this? Inquiring minds want to know....

Posted

Since everyone else seems to be camping, we've now grabbed spot #48 for both Friday and Saturday night. We'll be bringing our camper. Looks like fun!

The TH is 2.5 hours from our house, so camping just makes more sense.

I don't know what most people are planing, but we'll probably lay low Friday night (maybe a couple of beers and visiting) My husband will be fishing all day while hikers hike and he claims that he'll grill for us Saturday. (we'll have to work out a menu as the date draws near) I think there will be a few tasty brews consumed by me on Saturday evening.

If anyone has a spot to split, I'll pay for half.

I will be there by myself Criminal, so if you are interested, feel free to come on over to 60 with me. I promise I don't bite, stink or snore. :D

We're presently negotiating with NWCREW to rent him the basement of site 63. You shouldn't have

any problem finding a spot because the sites can allegedly accommodate up to six people. There is a $10

fee per extra vehicle, so to get the best deal, you'll want to find some socialists to go halfsies with :D

There's still room over in site 46, when I reserved the site I reserved for 6 people just in case.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to bring the tent trailer.
