what is the meaning of "disc. mon # 50,007"

Recommended Posts

A couple of days ago I found a benchmark (AA8664) in an area where construction is going on. The benchmark and the concrete it was set in was painted day-glow orange and the disk itself (picture) had "50,007" written on it in black ink. There were two stakes on either side of the disk, both painted day-glow orange and both labeled "disc. mon # 50,007" (picture here). Does this mean the disk is being discontinued? Can one of the (very helpful) pros who watch here help me interpret this? Thanks.

but I think it would indicate that the disk is monumented as the 50,007th benchmark for the company emplacing it. I suspect the dayglow paint was an effort to keep the construction crews from destroying it, as well as an aid to the survey crew re-locating it at later phases of the construction.

Then again, I could be wrong.
