eschmale
FOA I should say we are new to geocaching. We like to go on bike ride or simply to go for a walk at certain trails... Is there an easy way to locate caches near a specific trail? Thanks Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
Not really, unless the map would show a trail. Even then, you may end up doing a little bit of bushwhacking. I suppose it would be possible if the "trail" shows up on the map. Mostly, you are going to have to rely on the cache description. "Near" or "Nearby the trail" means different things to different people. Quote Link to comment
namiboy
how long of a trail? if you know the zip code the trail is in you could just search by zip code on the cache seek page and then see if any that are in the same zip code as the trail are near the trail. Quote Link to comment

Yes most bike trails will show up on an aerial photo.. they might disappear under tree cover here and there, but the general track should be evident. If it is a Rails to Trails or old roadbed it will be quite obvious. Find one spot on the trail on a google satellite image use the "Geocaching.com Google Map" link so cache icons will show up as you drag scroll up or down the trail. Hovering the mouse over an icon will give you some data on that cache and you can mark it for further evaluation. There are some bike trails that have so many caches along them that you can trace the trail route by the line of cache icons across the map. Quote Link to comment
+ras_oscar
A lot of the trails show up on OSM. And I regularly add trails I've used to find caches in my travels. Quote Link to comment
