Garmin Etrex h

I gave my niece a garmin etrex - the cheapest unit for sale- to get her started with geocaching. She is having trouble using it and so am I I have the instructions and have read & re-read yet unable to figure out how to put in the coordinates to a geocache.

 

My search in the forums keeps erroring me, so I thought I'd just ask for help.

 

Could anyone point me in a direction for some good instructions?

Not intuitive at all but you "mark" your current position. Then "edit" that to the coordinates you want to goto. Then select that point and hit "goto". Works for most all the Garmin units.

Can she connect it to her PC? If so, you can probably use the browser plugin from Garmin to send the coordinates on geocaching.com to the Garmin. Though, I'm not sure that the 'eTrex H' can support that. Good Luck

Yes you can but you have to purchase the special serial cable separately and then with most modern PCs also buy a USB to serial adapter. By the time you get both those items and get them working - you may as well have bought a Venture HC that uses a very common USB connection.

She is all set now and excited about geocaching. I am hoping this new hobby will bring us closer. I certainly have had some fun so far!
