+cmdrblop Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 If you could ask your fellow cachers to to just one thing to improve the game for the rest of us, what would you ask for? I've given it some thought, and for some reason I keep coming back to a pet peeve: I would ask my fellow cachers to not hide caches on playgrounds. Nobody wants to see some lone dude crawling around looking under the slide. It's creepy when there are kids around. It's creepier when they're not. So that's my request. What about you? Quote
+StarBrand Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Use a container that will keep the logsheet dry in any conditions the cache is likely to encounter. Quote

Nomex Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 1. Mostly for newer folks, but please update Home Location in their Profile. 2. Before submitting a Listing, click on the Nearest Caches link to see if there are any nearby caches. 3. For folks in my area, if you have a suspicion that there might be a Stage/Final too close to your proposed placement, email me the coordinates before wasting your valuable time in making your one of a kind creation so that I can let you know of any nearby caches that might interfere. 4. Don't submit Listings with business or product names in the Title. In general, avoid promoting nearby businesses in your Description. Quote

+Eagle and the nuts Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Be responsible with trackables and stop stealing them. It is a lot more fun to watch their progress aound the world than to throw them in the trash. Quote
+Chrysalides Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Cache responsibly. If it is "fellow cachers in the forums", it'll be "less angst" Quote
+silksmybaby Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Rehide them EXACTLY where you found them. Do not hide in a place you think is better or where you think it may have started but has migrated. If everyone hides it exactly as it was found it shouldn't migrate too much. Quote
+Chokecherry Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 1. Rate your caches correctly (especially 1 star terrain). Don't tell me it's 1 star and have me bushwhacking and crawling over and under tree stumps on the edge of a cliff. 2. Maintain your caches. 3. And I agree rehide as you found them and where you find them. Quote
+Isonzo Karst Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 If you are losing interest in owning your caches, pick 'em up and archive the listings. Quote

+DragonsWest Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Make sure the cover for the cache is in place, so it isn't inadvertently discovered and muggled. One cache I found yesterday was completely exposed and had several muggle entries in the logbook. Thankfully none where obscene, as I've seen in others. When rehiding the cache I made sure it was better covered. Quote
+geodarts Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I will go with the "close the cover of the lid" answers. I am in the process of replacing all the decons I have out there because even experienced cachers do not seem to always close them. Quote
+ADTCacheur Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Be most excellent to each other. Party on dudes! I would say "hide nanos as micros (or even better, get GSP to add a "nano" cache option when you make a cache) not as unknowns... Quote
+Crafty Turtle Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Have a point to your cache. I live in a beautiful rural area. We have many forests, lakes, mountains and rivers. We have many historical features including railways, gold diggings, hotels, monuments, and public buildings. Please don't waste your time with a micro in a lakeside botanic garden, with no info on your page about the gardens. Pointless caches are easily forgettable. Please, take me on an adventure. Quote
AZcachemeister Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Let me know the log is almost full, but don't post a 'Needs Maintenance' log just for that reason. Quote

+KJcachers Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 maintain your caches like you agreed to when you joined. find about 100 caches before hiding any caches. treat every cache you find like it's something special and not just tupperware in the woods. Quote

+The Blorenges Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I'd ask them to click the links on the left of every cache page and read the information there. (Particularly the "Trackable Items" and "Forums".) MrsB Quote

Are you kidding me? OK here is my one request Please hide a cache in a lakeside botanic garden near my house, I don't care if there is any info on your page about the gardens. I will just be happy to see them and the lake. So much better than a field of rocks in the centre median of the highway etc. (you do know that the "point" to geocacing is to find geocaches right) OK Ok, Cut that one. Here is my request: Don't confuse geocaching with Waymarking. If you hate caches that "don't take me anywhere", I think you are confusing the two. Give Waymarking a try. Find a catagory that takes you places you like, and go find them all. Edited May 25, 2010 by Andronicus Quote
