+fastmongrel Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Does anyone use screen protector film. I have a new Dakota 20, at the moment I have just left the packaging film on the screen to protect it. As well as caching I will be using it for Mountain Biking and I wear gloves that get a bit covered in mud from my regular trips unplanned trips into the undergrowth. Can anyone reccomend a good company to buy proper screen protectorfilm from preferably cut to size for a Dakota but not essential I have a scalpel I can use to cut to size. I bought some screen protectors for my Samsung phone last year from a German company on Amazon but they were shocking they were impossible to apply without bubbles and peeled off within days. Quote

+*mouse* Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I use a zagg on my oregon and think it's great. Not the cheapest screen protector out there, but you should only need to buy the one whereas other cheaper ones may need replacing. Quote
+Pharisee Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I also use a Zagg on my iQue 3600. It's been on for about 18 months and still looks very good. I did manage to get one tiny bubble under it but it's not noticeable in use. The iQue touch-screen is designed to be used with a stylus and if you get the light just right, with the iQue turned off, you can just see some tiny scratches in places where you use the stylus the most but they are invisible when the iQue is switched on. Not the cheapest but the best I've used so far. Quote
+abanazar Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 (edited) I'm a Zagg (Oregon) user too. At first, I found it changed the texture of the touchscreen and, to be honest, I slightly preferred the original texture. But that was so long ago, I very quickly got used to it, and I'm much happier that I've had the scratch protection all this time rather than a very slightly nicer (IMHO) touchscreen feel. When I started caching, I had never appreciated how dirty my fingers would get whilst retrieving and rehiding caches! I'm so glad of my Zagg: it gets mucky and I just clean it off without getting precious about the underlying touchscreen. The Zagg was a bit of a faff to apply, but I watched the video and muddled through it. Well worth it, in my opinion. Edited May 24, 2010 by abanazar Quote

Clicky The link is for a US website, does anyone know of a UK supplier? I've googled and tried the usual suspects but couldn't see anything. Quote

+*mouse* Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I've always bought off the American site - never had any problems and usually delivered in 3 or 4 days. Yoshic - I would definately recommend a screen protector for your oregon. I always figure that if you spend hundreds of pounds on a GPS its worth a little extra to protect it properly Quote
+burtsbodgers Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Hi All The Zagg is the best i have used, but not the easiest to install However it will not protect the screen from an impact, well ok a drop! I managed to shatter the screen, but there was not a scratch on it! I still use them! If you buy from the link supplied only buy 1, then for the next bit of kit you want 1 for you will get a discount card, then if you order 3 items you get the $5 Off plus if i remember correctly 30% as well. The company is American but UK orders are dispatched in the UK, Bristol i think. Quote
+*mouse* Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Better still - enter the prize draws on their website and they keep email you discount codes. Hold out for long enough and you'll get sent a code for 50% Unfortunately they're one use only and I already used mine, otherwise I'd have offered it to someone. Quote
+Stuey Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Another vote for Zagg. I won't look at anything else next time I change my GPS. They are very hard wearing, long term screen protectors. I've had one on my old eTrex Venture for over 6 years and it is as good as new (now being used as a hand me down GPS by new cachers). Quote

Hi yes I have and do use Universal Screen Protector from Car phone Warehouse? My Garmin Oregon 550 and one costs about £5.99 but cut it out and it makes 2 Is that cheap? I think so when you consider how much the unit costs? Quote
