Confused

Yesterday we went looking for HT1315 and did not find it, presumably due to a bridge replacement in 1988. We did stumble across another NGS disk, J 110 RESET 1988. Mark 'J 110' is referenced in the description for HT1315 and is also an azimuth mark for HT3354 that was (re-) established in 1967. But J 110 RESET is not in the NGS database at all. The disc clearly says NGS on it, so what is going on here?

Looks like you found one that was never sent in to NGS after it was reset. Maybe the notes got lost or maybe they never did the work. Check with the agency that built the bridge, CALTRANS or city etc, they may have the info.

I found one in a bridge that was reset in 1965 but no info can be found. The state NGS adviser could not even find any info.

Someone from NGS supplied them with the disk and they dropped the ball sending in the info. Just because it an NGS disk, does not mean it was set by NGS. It used to carry a bunch of them around in my work truck for resetting marks, all provided by NGS + we had some USGS disks but often would use our own (DOT).

We have several marks that we reset back in the 70's. We sent the data to NGS via our agency and somewhere along the line it fell into a black hole. Since copy machines were not to prevalent in those days, my boss never made any copies of anything. He sent it all in and it never made the database. In questioning this once, we were told that when a new supervisor took over our survey section, he had them store a lot of old notes in storage off site and that area was later renovated and the notes were lost in the shuffle. The secretary said one box was full of NGS recovery mark notes etc being collected statewide to be sent in. Typical government screwup!
