How's this for a unusual hunting experience:

My boyfriend (known as "facetheduke" on the site) and I greatly enjoyed being introduced to and finding caches this past summer, so as soon as the weather turned nice again we set a date aside to drive up to one of the nicer parks out our way, have a picnic lunch, rent some kayaks, then go geocaching for a bit.

After enjoying the beautiful day, we wanted to end with some geocaching. My boyfriend navigated (using an app on his iPhone) and I scanned the area. Unknowing at the time, he wasn't really navigating...he led me to a special cache he planted a few days before off of one of the hiking trails. I saw the cache (titled "Yummy Lower Rail"), opened it, and saw a notecard on top of a log book that read "Turn Over"...I did.

I was definitely not expecting what happened next! After reading the other side ("Lauren, I love you. Turn around.") he was down on one knee with the ring out! "Yummy Lower Rail" was an anagram for "Will You Marry Me" as I later found out.

Since he never logged the cache, I decided to keep it (and maybe plant it for real for a wedding anniversary?)

I couldn't be happier right now! This happened only this past weekend (5/15/10) and I can't help but brag about it in the forums!

So since you have to trade equal or better, just what did you leave? I'm sure you logged Signed log. Took Husband left ?. It better not have been a McToy! Just what would that say about your fiancée?

That is a great story. I actually propesed to my fiance in a similar way. We went to Seneca Lake NY, wine country, and stayed in a bed and breakfast. When we arrived we went and did some geocaches. I found one right on Seneca Lake. When we found it I slipped in a poem that I wrote and after she read it I got on one knee and proposed. We are actually getting married 2 weeks from today !

You should send the story to the Podcacher radio show and/or FTF magazine ..lots of people would enjoy hearing it ;)

Thanks, all! It's a great story to tell, except I'm finding that it's much harder to explain geocaching to older people who asked how he proposed!

jeffbouldin - there are very few times I literally LOL at posts...yours was one of those few times! Haha, thanks for the laugh!

JJball - you just got me hooked on listening to Podcacher! I never even thought of searching for a podcast on geocaching before! I'll have to leave them a voicemail sometime.
