+The Spindoctors Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Less than two weeks after Dave Ulmer placed his cache, Paul Edwards placed Australia's first on 18 May 2000. The cache, which is now a virtual, is Lane Cove (GC3E) Paul and others have shared their stories about Australia's first geocache with the Geocaching NSW association and we hope to put them on our website soon. Looking forward to another 10 years of geocaching in Australia. Quote

Looking forward to another 10 years of geocaching in Australia. Ergh, I was intending to visit this cache while in Australia last time, I don't know how I managed to not do it. Happy Anniversary, mates! Edited May 18, 2010 by Ambrosia Quote
+rediguana Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Congrats Bob! As always, it seems the Australians are stuck following the Kiwi's lead - we had the first cache placement outside of the US! I still must get to Lane Cove - have missed the opportunity a number of times now, but then again, not that far for us.. Quote
+The Spindoctors Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) NZ was certainly quicker at getting into the game. I've been reading some of the posting from May 2000. Interesting discovering how the first few geocaches in Australia and New Zealand began. I see you have a nice page on the GPS.org.nz website. Will have to do a similar one for Geocaching NSW. EDIT: Page is up - http://www.geocachingnsw.asn.au/index.php/...-first-geocache Edited May 19, 2010 by The Spindoctors Quote
+geodarts Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Ten years of caching and a world class darts player (Simon Whitlock). What more could any country want? Quote
+Intemperance Society Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I think a lot of Canadians identify with Australians. Perhaps it's because we're two big countries (I know, I know, you're a continent... bully for you.) with relatively low and centralized populations; or maybe because we're both Commonwealth countries. Either way, congrats on 10 years of Geocaching! Way to go, eh! Sincerely, Canada Quote
+Crafty Turtle Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Wow, I feel so young. I've been caching in Australia for about 8% of that time. But right now, I'm caching in New Zealand. A double reason to celebrate! Quote
