+rogbarn
Last Sunday we passed 36,425 benchmarks found so that the number remaining fell below 700,000. It sure looks strange seeing that large number remaining starting with a "6" now. Sometime today, we should pass 36,822 which is 5% of the total benchmarks in the database. And sometime in mid-Sept we will pass 40,000. All this to update those who are interested and to ask for updates to be posted over the weekend. I will be away and not near a computer on Sat & Sun, so if whoever is on could post the number of benchmarks found on the main benchmark page, I would appreciate it. I try to get the number around 7 AM geocaching time, so if it happens to be around that time, so much the better. Thanks to all who help out. Quote Link to comment

BeachBum22
I've found over 50 benchmarks in the NGS database in my county that are not in the database here. Let's see... there are 3,017 counties in the U.S., if every one has 50 new ones, then it's possible that are 153,850 that we aren't even looking for yet I doubt we'll run out of unfound ones anytime soon.... +GEO*Trailblazer 1
I also have about 50 or more that are not in the data base. Keep on looking were not there yet........ Its amazing when you learn what to look for the marks just seem to jump out at you,The wife and I spotted several the other day when we were out finding some diffrent ones. +Green Toad
I don't want to start a flame war, like the ones about stats for geocaches; but I was curious about most BM finds. I'm not really concerned about WHO has the most finds, but I would find it interesting if there are people that have over 1, 2, 3+K finds. Those people should be commended for their work. I'm more interested in knowing this info from an intellectual point of view, rather than a competitive view. -stroh -Technology...I have no idea what I would do without my GPSr, my TiVo, or my Computer with a DSL connection. I guess I would spend more time with my wife! Quote Link to comment
+rogbarn
Thanks for the help in getting stats. No one got the number for Saturday but I don't think it's a big deal. We hit 5% of the total (36,822) on Friday which was the milestone I was interested in getting. Re Individual stats: The last time (2 weeks ago) I did a large check (but still a very manual process), there were none over 1,000. The summary for those over 50: 700s: 2 400s: 2 300s: 3 200s: 8 100s: 29 50-99: 56 Since it's just a manual list, I'm sure there are some that I don't have on the list. Don't ask for names, I'm not going to give them out. But it should give you some idea of who is doing how much. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
So Rogbarn, what happens if GC.com re-sync with NGS and dumps another 100k (or so) into the total? Redo the milestones? Just wondering. Thanks Quote Link to comment

Redo the milestones? Just wondering. Thanks First of all, I seriously doubt that there will be anything close to 100K new benchmarks. Maybe a few thousand. Surveying is active in specific areas so it is not unusual to see 50 new ones in an area. But to multiply that by 3,000 counties is a serious error, IMHO. Still, it is a good point that the numbers could easily change, possibly somewhat significantly. My opinion is that we work with the numbers we have. The milestones we have hit can still be considered historically valid after an update because they were current at the time we reached them. When an update hits, I will have to recompute the # remaining and the percentage milestones and continue from there. Quote Link to comment
BeachBum22
What's the lat/lon for these milestones so we can go look for them? Quote Link to comment
