Calling all forum packrats: Your JUNK for my GEOCOINS!

Hey Geocoiners...got junk? I sure hope so!

I'm currently participating in a month-long scavenger hunt at my workplace, and I'd really like to kick my collective co-workers' butts with a big, loud thud! I got to thinking about the potential resources available here, and I'm hoping that your attics and basements might hold the treasures I seek.

Here's the deal: I've got a lot of geocoins. But I don't have, say...for example: a New Kids On The Block poster, or a plastic figurine of Pepe Le Pew. If you have either of these, or any of the items listed below, let's talk turkey! Since some of the items may be more common than others, I'm guessing more than one person will have them. So just to be clear, this isn't really a "first-to-post" type of cointest. It's a modified cointest in that I'd really like to give away a bunch of coins for these items. But if any one person can send me a good number of these items, we'll certainly negotiate for more stuff!

Just to keep this solidly in line with your standard forum cointest, I'll be awarding a nice geocoin to someone in this thread who helps out.

Capiche? Buono. Here's the list...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you spot a bunch of stuff on here that you DEFINITELY HAVE, shoot me an e-mail to yemonyime(at)yahoo(dot)com and we'll go into "Junk for Geocoins" discussions!
***IMPORTANT INFO***
I'll most likely need to verify items for their "legality" with regards to the scavenger hunt. For example, I thought I had a dinosaur cookie cutter, but it turned out to be a really badly done giraffe! :anicute:
The above is a current list of items I need, and don't have in my possession right now. Some are worth more points than others in my work contest, and I'll certainly consider that when we negotiate swappage. The list could potentially change if I stumble across an item locally. On the other hand, I might not get other non-listed items I thought I had already secured!
Let's try this for two weeks and see what you can come up with! I'll set an "offer" deadline of May 25th so that I can get stuff here and in hand in plenty of time for my own contest deadline.
Thanks for looking everyone, and I look forward to seeing whatcha got tucked away!
Are you not allowed to buy these things
I have ear plugs and maybe the cookie cutter. I'll check for the matches, but I'm thinking it's a candy wrap that looks like a matchbook. I'll read it again in a bit and see if anything else pops out at me.
Edit: Yes plugs. Yes cookie cutter. Define "real feather" I have some feathers that are dyed black. Do they mean natural? I had some birds nest in my bird houses and they left about a week ago. I could check them for feathers. How big do they need to be? I'm sure there will be some small ones. Thought I had a plastic harmonica, but can't find it. Looking for my box of birthday candles to see if there are any purple. Does it have to be only purple or just have purple as one of the colors. I think I have a rainbow one, if I didn't give it to my neighbor. Don't think I can help on anything else. Let me know if you need what I have and I'll ask around to see if anyone else has anything.
I have these:
A Real Feather
A Furby
The feather is big. It's from a muskovy duck. They're are several feathers in the grass in my backyard. The Furby is real big tho. It's a regular one. Mint in box. In fact I have 2.
Ashtray from Caesar's Palace Las Vegas - Too bad it wasn't The Flamingo!!!
Personalized Matches from a Wedding - I may still have a pack from my own wedding. I have to look.
You guys are simply awesome. I knew this crew would have some of this stuff hiding away somewhere.
I'm going to maintain a spreadsheet of your "offers" to keep track of what's available and what's not. I will be trying to swing deals with multiple people, but I'll also need to keep mailing costs as efficient as possible. The more stuff you have, the better, but don't be discouraged if you only have one or two things. In fact, I don't think I specified this, but the items are worth more "points" as you go down the list. So if you have one of those "deeper" things, let me know ASAP!
To answer an earlier question, yes, I'm allowed to buy stuff. But the ultimate "prize" isn't going to be worth me spending buku bucks. Besides, I'm more motivated by bragging rights and the potential pleasure of rubbing my co-workers' noses in plastic poo. (Yes, that's on the list, and I might still need some if I can't find my old gag turd)
Some clarifications:
The floppy disk is an eight inch disk (or diskette, however they called it), like the early Radio Shack TRS-80's used. (Not the more common 5 1/4")
The items don't have to be new, but at least presentable. Example: I doubt the judges will require me to conduct a conversation with a Furby, so it doesn't need to actually work. But if yours has been mauled and slobbered on by the family dog...you should prolly let Cujo keep it. I'd prefer not to have to snap on latex gloves to handle it. Capiche? :anicute:
For safety's sake, I really can't use anything that's been "handmade" by you. Example: I myself could easily slap a fake "Made In Canada" stamp on the bottom of a wood carving lying around my house, but these guys KNOW me...and my "Mad Photoshop Skillz". Trust me, they'll bust me on it, so it's gotta be completely on the up and up.
So anyways, I'm glad you guys are having fun with this too! In fact, stay tuned after this ends, because I'll be working up a special Scavenger Hunt Photo Cointest...for the Geocoin Forum!
I am a packrat extraordinaire so I will have to start looking through my "collection" BUT what in the world is a furby? Who knows I may have one of those too! LOL
A stuff toy about 8-10" high, I know where there is one but it would be a fight to get it from her (15+ years later) :o
Actually a little shorter than that, and not so stuffed - it is a sound and light activated mechanical toy that 'learns' to talk, sing, 'dance', and take a nap. Mine is not still in the box, but it does still work. I actually have several of them (there were many different color variations). Funny just a couple weeks ago I moved them from the living room shelf to the garage sale box.
8" floppy disk??? Isn't that a little ....huge??? these were probably in use a long time ago... right?? They were that big becasue you could save more data?? Never heard that big sized floppy disks!! I think once I heard that even something like a video cassete was in use in PC's but ...
Something made in Canada?? hmm... I do not know... I have to see but what a bout a Canadian Postage Stamp for example?? I mean it is from Canada but it doesn't actually say... made in Canada!
I have some feathers from a female peacock (color variations from dark brown until light brown..), a huge from a male one, and the edge of a male peacock feather and an other that I do not know from where it is.... maybe from a turkey?? It is like a leopard had feathers! :o
I am wondering... how I can send these?? How I can send the huge male feather?? and will not get destroyed.... right??
The 8" disks were the first introduced and they did not hold a lot of data! The first one came out in 1971 and could only hold 80 kb and was read-only. By 1977 they could hold 1.2 mb, but were being replaced by 5.25" by then.
Might be able to score you one of these Yime, if I can sneak it out of my boss' office. :o
This is a pretty cool thread, but shouldn't it be in the "Trade" thread?? LOL :o:P
~J
You have a good point, and I did think about that because there will be an element of trading involved. But since there's going to be some competition among the "scavengers" as to who can find both quantity and quality of interesting items, it's ultimately a cointest that I thought would be best served in its own thread for discussion and amusement.
Also, I'm not listing any specific coins up for grabs, so I didn't wish to clutter up the Trading Thread for people who do have specific coins they're looking for. I figured they might appreciate the option to skip over the Furby and Fake Dog Poo talk. :D:o
But with that said, I don't have a problem leaving it up to the mods to decide where it should go. There shall still be scavenging!
As long as you shellac it. :o
Actually, I'm good on the fake dog poo. Apparently, my father found it right where I left it...twenty years ago! :o
Looking for my box of birthday candles to see if there are any purple. Does it have to be only purple or just have purple as one of the colors.
S'gotta be purple. Purple with purple stripes, or purple with purple polka dots, or purple with purple accents of purple empurpled into the purpulous wax from the ever-purpular purple petroleum plants that purpulate the perplexed purpulation of Purplesburgh, Purplesvania...where of course, purple comes from. :o
I have been looking for a bag I had with some anti DUI stuff in it. I don't know if it has a bumper sticker, but I'm trying hard to find it.
For the monkey does the local zoo let you take pictures with one. (do you have to be holding it?) How about an organ grinder? A monkey rescue? Put and add on CraigsList? LOL Good Luck with that one.
I'd have to measure it but I have one of those styrofoam balls that you use for flower arrangements. Is that what they are talking about? Would it be 3" around or across.
I have a pic of you holding Elvis...will that help? :o
Sure it'll help. It'll help prove, once and for all, that The King is alive! Can you believe some people still doubt that? I mean, SHEESH, every once in a while a Graceland employee finds a toenail clipping in the shag rug of the Jungle Room...and they act like they don't know where it came from. Duh, seriously, duh. :o
Okay, a quick update.
I'm now going through emails, and I have to thank you all for your enthusiasm and item offers! I will try to respond to everyone tonight.
After consulting with Mrs. Yime...(read: she injected some logic into my thinking)...she "suggested" that it's pretty silly to have anyone wait around two weeks for a yes/no answer on their items. So, I will also ask for definitive confirmations on some items that have been offered, and start the process of filling my Magic Junk Bag! Since I do have some items that are being offered more often than others, this will help me knock some items off the list to avoid wasting anyone's time.
Thanks!
Ya because if you wait 2 weeks, I might be tempted to just keep the Milli Vanilli Casette Jacket. :o
If you lived in Jacksonville Florida I could get a picture of you with a marmoset monkey. The local pet store where I purchased our bearded dragon has one running around the store. Maybe you could call some of the privately owned pet/reptile stores in your area and see if they have a marmoset monkey. Our local store carries all kinds of unusual animals.
