+barondriver
Today while out Benchmarking I wondered several times about the info said that the benchmark was 8 feet south of Pole 255+01..and 3 1/2 feet north of Pole 257+05. We had found pole 255 & 257 but didn't know what to do. I asked a railroad worker and he said that 01 is equal to 140 feet so 255+01 would be marker 255 plus 140 feet (148 feet south..in case 1) and 257+05 would be marker 257 plus (140 time 5) or 700 feet...or in case 2..703 1/2 feet north of 257...interesting! survey tech
These 2 points are, or were, about 2 miles apart and were placed 8' and 3.5' respectively from the poles specified at that time. If the poles are not that distance apart now, then they have been replaced, which is likely after almost 70 years. Quote Link to comment
