compass_bearing_north
Is there a bench mark on Half Dome Quote Link to comment
ArtMan
Apparently not. I got the coordinates from Topozone and plugged them into both the NGS Datasheet Retrieval Page and into Geocaching.com's own benchmark page. Closest stations in Yosemite are a couple of miles away. Quote Link to comment
survey tech
A tri-station atop Half Dome would have been superb for mapping 100 years ago, but now that the mapping of the park is all long completed, there would be no use for one there, since the park is, and shall remain, free from development, now and forever. walkerk
Having hiked a lot in Yosemite and climbed Half Dome when I was much younger, I can not imagine a survey party wanting to drag themselves and their equipment up there. Even with the "ladder" ( ladder picture ) installed by the Park Department on the east side, it's a steep climb in thin air from the end of the pack trail to the top of the dome. The peak of Cloud's Rest (2 miles NE), along with Mount Hoffman and Red Peak are much more accessible. Quote Link to comment
