recording a benchmark

The benchmark page says to record the mark when it is found but I can't find the proper place to do this. I found this mark on my own so unlike caches I can't go back to the page where it is listed. Can anyone give a novice some help on this? Thanks.

With your GPS receiver, get the coordinates of the benchmark you found. Type them into the benchmark page. Examine the closest benchmark that comes up and see if its Designation is the same as what is stamped on the disk you found.

I have the same "problem". I found a couple of benchmarks....logged in the coordinates of each, and then did the search to find the nearest one....neither of them matched the ones I found.....

 

So, how do I log the two I found that aren't listed?

You're not alone. Check this current thread on the same situation. For now, there is no way to log such finds - only those in the database can be logged, so most of us are searching the database first, and finding the benchmarks in it.

 

There's just a slim chance you've found a 'skull' (benchmark previously not found), so when you do the search on coordinates, be sure to click on "See all benchmarks for this query".
