+litefoot13
A couple of weeks ago was my brother's birthday. Among other things, we went geocaching. For one reason or another, my dad did not have time to get his birthday cake ready, then we decided to wait until my aunt was here to visit so she could enjoy it. So we had it tonight. It's rather cool. He's proud of it, especially since it is his first time working with fondant. This is the top of the cake. He had me bring down our Garmin as a model. On the left side of the cake is a little hill. The frosting is homemade buttercream - the brown is chocolate, yummy. There is a little cache hidden somewhere in the cake. Can you find it? Hint: Sbyybj gur neebj No coordinates available, because the cache is already gone! *grins* Did you look in the bottom right corner? A mini Snickers bar for my brother's enjoyment. [sorry for the blur, it's the only image I have] Quote Link to comment
knowschad
That is SO cool!! Thanks for posting. I'd love to get a cake like that myself. Quote Link to comment

+simpjkee
I hope there wasn't a nano hidden in it. Quote Link to comment
+litefoot13
I hope there wasn't a nano hidden in it. Well...it was small and brown, but instead of a tiny rolled-up log paper it had nougat, peanuts and caramel in it. Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
My daughter made an ammo can shaped cake for an event we attended. She can't stand store bought fondant, so she makes her own. Quote Link to comment

+Vater_Araignee
OMG THE CACHE WAS BURIED! FOR SHAME! Quote Link to comment
+brslk
Those were both really cool and creative. I would love either one of those for my next birthday but I have decided I am no longer going to have birthdays. Therefore I will stop aging. Seriously though, Excellent job by the cake makers. +litefoot13
OMG THE CACHE WAS BURIED! FOR SHAME! Hey, don't assume! Maybe a...little chocolate...bunny had made its den there and it was a...um...naturally occurring hole that just got a rock placed over it for extra camo? Quote Link to comment
+wimseyguy
As an experienced cacher and foodservice professional (you thought that forum title was just for laughs?) I spotted the UPF (Unusual pile of frosting) immediately in the first pic. That was a great idea, and I'm sure lots of fun. And bonus points for making real buttercream instead of taking the easy canned lardfilled way out! I suspect we might see a few more geocaching cakes posted to this thread with all of the 10 Year events taking place this weekend. But you got to post yours first. Quote Link to comment

+triohugger
Great work you guys!! I love artistic food!! I think I might have a go at it and make my own GC cake, just for the hell of it!! I love the idea of hiding a cache in the cake. I wonder what other kind of pastries would make a good GC yum-yum?? Quote Link to comment
+litefoot13
I'd love for everyone else to post pictures of GC cakes, cupcakes, brownies, etc. I tried finding some pictures for my dad when he was planning this, but couldn't find anything, so he had to go with his own creativity. +Knight2000
I love fondant! My daughter made an ammo can shaped cake for an event we attended. She can't stand store bought fondant, so she makes her own. Great idea. My wife saw this and said that is what we should have made for our next event! Need more pictures! The TYE that we went to today has a sheet cake with the TY logo on it but I don't have a picture. Just a sheet cake. No big deal. Quote Link to comment

No big deal. <happy sigh> I love CakeWrecks. : ) I though the same thing about the original OP cake ("it's buried!") but I think it's absolutely awesome and clever. And the ammo can cake is wonderful! Quote Link to comment
+simpjkee
siamezers had this cake made and brought it to the 10 Years! Mesa, AZ event. It even had my face on it! Quote Link to comment
+litefoot13
Pretty cool. Looks yummy. ^^ My favorite part of sheet cakes is usually the edge...because it has the highest amount of frosting! *laughs* Quote Link to comment

But can she make the fondant taste good? I've never seen that in almost 30 years of playing with food. Quote Link to comment

+litefoot13
What would be kind of cute for a small event would be cupcakes with icons on them. Like traditional, multi, etc icons. [/random idea] Quote Link to comment

+GreenShrubs
My fiance uses the marsmallow based fondant. It is VERY good. We have had people tell us that they normally do not like fondant, but love hers. Quote Link to comment
