+Woodstramp Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Just curious...How many EC's are there in the Continental US? Also, how many total in the world? Thanks. Quote
+Castle Mischief Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Just curious...How many EC's are there in the Continental US? Also, how many total in the world? Thanks. Ooodles. I guess you could run a PQ for each of the 50 states for all ECs and then add them up... I don't think anybody is keeping a running count. EDIT UPDATE: Oodles +1. Quote
+NYPaddleCacher Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Just curious...How many EC's are there in the Continental US? Also, how many total in the world? Thanks. I just ran a pocket query, centered in upstate NY which only showed Earth Caches. With the limit at 500 caches it returned a list that covered a good portion of the east coast. The furthest east was in Maine, furthest south in Virginia, furthest west a good way into Ohio, and the furthest northest well into Ontario. I suspect that earth caches number in the thousands U.S. wide. Quote
+Chrysalides Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 3949 in the United States. 22 in Hawaii, 57 in Alaska. Subtract them depending on what is your definition of "continental US". 8376 in the world. For the promise of a good cup of coffee if we ever meet, I'll tell you where I got the numbers from Quote

I'm curious. http://www.geosociety.org/Earthcache/Earth...SearchForm.aspx I figured they won't have a 500 cache limit Edited April 28, 2010 by Chrysalides Quote
+Woodstramp Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 I did a PQ like NYPaddle did and came up with a heap that covered most of the southern US. Once I looked at several of local ones I'd realized that I've been to a couple of them without even knowing it. I was at some of those spots but didn't have them loaded on the GPS to read the EC descriptions. I was just curious how many there are to make sure I can have them saved. Just trying to gage "how many" to sort them for the PN. Thanks for the replies. Quote
+buttaskotch Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Why don't you open up your PQ's to include them if you want to start going after some? For more info on the Earthcaches, go to http://www.earthcache.org/ Quote

For more info on the Earthcaches, go to http://www.earthcache.org/ I have done this. It's just that one time, about a month ago, I must have not included them on that PQ. Quote
Keystone Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I am moving this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum to the Earthcaching forum. Quote
+TerraViators Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 As of today, the earthcache.org search still shows the same 8376 from April. It must be closer to 9000, I would think. Quote
