Is there a U.S. Coast Gaurd database for benchmarks placed by them? I found one in Wilmington, NC that I can't find a matching description for on the Geocaching/Benchmark site.

A little more info on the mark etc. The coast guard does not set any marks, NOS or NGS do most of it.

 

Maybe you mean US Corps of Engineers? (USE)

Maybe he means something like these:

2 USCG

3 USCG

 

Are these Coast Guard marks? Or does USCG stand for something else?

They appear to have been established by the Coast Guard but the only data available is by Coast and Geodetic Survey. So I would not consider it a USCG mark, NGS data gas superseded any USCG control.

 

I know of no USCG databash, NGS handles all that. I know NGS has established control for the USCG OCRS sites. I live about 15 miles from a USCG CORS sites KEW1 and KEW2

The benchmark I found has the following information upon it's surface:

 

U.S. Coastgaurd

GEN - 93

$250 fine or imprisonment for disturbing this mark.

 

I didn't have my GPS unit with me when I found it so I don't have any coordinates for the mark - I was just wandering around in downtown Wilmington, NC looking for a place to eat. The benchmark was imbedded in the top of a low concrete wall along the edge of a large dock in the Cape Fear river. The dock is owned by the Coast Gaurd.
