yodabuds Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Hi Everyone, I just hid my first cache, I only put a log in it as it was only a micro. I was getting to thinking though of all the new cache's I hide of putting an unused geocoin in the cache... Is that a little excessive to put in a cache (they are not cheap any where from $7-10 on average) I have yet to ever find anything of any value in any of the caches Ive found (let alone a geocoin) but I think that if people play the game and go out for the hunts there should be some reward (though I know to me at least, most of the fun is finding the cache and signing the log). I found my first geocoin just the other day and I absolutely fell in love with the detail, quality etc of the coin, as much as I love the coin I am going to drive it 40+miles to the next state over to help it complete its goal... So just some random musing here sorry for the long post just wanted some thoughts and opinions on geocoins swag etc... Yoda Quote
simpjkee Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I've gotten 3 of my coins from caches. - The first was just in a random cache. The guy before me decided to leave one for kicks and didn't say he did it in his log. I just happened to be the next to find and got to claim it. - I got another coin in a cache because the cache had been missing. When the owner replaced it he left an unactivated coin in it and I was next to find. - My newest coin I got for being FTF on a cache. If you can afford it, go ahead and put a coin in it if it's what you want to do. Whoever finds it will be a happy cacher! Quote
yodabuds Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Yea, I really want to put them in my cache's but than on the other hand I like them so much I want some of my own but feel like a dork and shouldnt be spending money on "fake" coins... LOL! I'm telling you the evil micro cache I found I just love it.... I've gotten 3 of my coins from caches. - The first was just in a random cache. +simpjkee Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Everytime you move one, you get an icon on your profile for it. You should do like me and just collect the icons on your profile. I've got a whole bunch now! Quote
Gitchee-Gummee Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Placing an unactivated 'coin for an FTF prize is great. But... rather than break the bank, save those 'coins as FTF prizes in really special caches that you put together. Say one that has a high difficulty rating or terrain rating. Don't place them into a cache just because it is your cache. Make the finder work for it. It will be all the more special to the finder, too! Quote
yodabuds Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 That sounds like a great idea, though I am having a hard time coming up with a puzzle of my own to hide a cache..... going to have to think about it for a while....thanks for the ideas guys Yodabuds Placing an unactivated 'coin for an FTF prize is great. +J the Goat Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Doesn't necessarily have to be a puzzle, put one in a cache that requires a wicked hike and has spectacular views. There are those of us who aren't mentally mighty enough to do complicated puzzle caches but still very much appreciate a well thought out cache with a nice hike and cool location. Quote
Ike 13 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 When I put out my first hides last year, each one had a Presidential dollar coin for FTF. They were easy to get, but you never see them in circulation, and they were really cool. I got away from that (no reasoning, I just stopped). Now that I moved to the city there are 3 people that constantly go out for FTF. In that situation the FTF hounds would just got loaded down with coins. I don't think that's fair. Like others have said save the coins for a really special cache. For the other caches you hide you can give the FTF a place of honor on your page. See one of mine. I am about ready to release 3 difficult puzzles. Anyone who finds all 3 will receive a little certificate congratulating them. It sounds corny, but from what I've heard and seen with other caches it is well liked. Quote
