Retract Notification

Since today another cache "disappeared" in broad daylight without seeing a notification for this, I wonder if notifications really do work for this kind of action.

sorry, I didn't take note of the GC number, so I had to wait for the next one

GCWAYV gave me a publish notification, bot the retract notification is missing

I believe that was simply a cache that was published by mistake. The reviewer then retracted the cache. Only a reviewer or site administrator can use the "retract" log type. You can get an instant notification on a "published" log, but not for a "retract" log. If you see a cache published and then disappear, it was typically retracted for some reason.

That's exactly what this is about. All my notifications have this box checked, every once in a while a cache gets retracted, but I have never received a notification on retraction.

 

So I assume it's just not working properly.

That's exactly what this is about. All my notifications have this box checked, every once in a while a cache gets retracted, but I have never received a notification on retraction.

 

So I assume it's just not working properly.

just like the "needs archival" log type, except that there isn't even a checkbox for that.

Slightly related but not quite, I noticed if you add a cache page to your watchlist and the cache is subsequently retracted you still get posts regarding the cache emailed to you... (maybe cool but not for the owner/reviewer) even when the retracted listing is ultimately archived you get a notification. And it still shows up in your Watchlist.

 

Just thought I'd mention since were talking about retracted listing "bugs".

 

This happened with an event cache and I can still see it on my Watchlist.

There are situations which could cause this, without there being anything wrong with the notifications. For example, a cache is published, but the owner then notices a typo in the coordinates. The change is too big for the CO to make, so he contacts the reviewer. The reviewer makes the coordinate change, which moves the cache 60 miles away. The reviewer now notices that this new location isn't valid (too close to another cache, for example), and retracts the listing.

 

When the cache was published, it was within the area you set up for notifications. But when the retraction was made, it was no longer within that area, so you didn't get the retraction.

I also have this problem and I have notifications covering the entire country (the advantage of living in a small country) and so for have never received a Retracted notification, while I know for a fact that more than one cache has been retracted.

 

So your suggestion could be the reason for some missing Retractions, but not for all. Also, I didn't get Coordinate Update lnotifications for them, and moving them (a long way) out of the country is something that doesn't happen very often I think.

Retraction notifications have stopped working. I used to get them, but I've come across two caches recently that I never got the notification on.

Retraction notifications were NOT sent.

I set for publish retract DNF NM and enable. got the other notifications, but NOT the retract...

I have a notification set up for update coords and get those here and there, so that one does work.

I have a feeling the retraction check box is just to make the user feel important and will not actually send out retraction notifications.
