Benchmark Symbol

What symbol does everyone use for marking benchmarks on the GPSrs? Just curious if there was a standard yet?

I use the default "crossed square" symbol for benchmarks, the "box" for geocaches and the "sightseeing" binoculars for virtual-caches.

I also use the default crosshair symbol for benchmarks and The Skull and Crossbones for caches. Choos!

The Teepee,or Triangle, For Triangulation Stations,Skull and Crossbones,for Fire District,Default,flag and square for vertical control marks,and several others for 2,3,order control.....

 

When all else fails Geotry again.

The triangle is the universal mapping symbol for any type of randomly located survey control point, which includes all geodetic markers, whereas the square is used for points that are not set at random locations, such as boundary corners. In fact, many surveyors refer to random control points as deltas, due to the shape of that letter of the greek alphabet.

I use the standard cross-box with the EasyGPS download and then when I send it to the mapping program I change it to identify the ones I found, didn't find, and still to be found.

I change the symbol for non-benchmark locations like vacation spots, common driving destinations, etc. to appropriate symbols.

 

I let the benchmarks get the default symbol. When I get a lot of them loaded in my GPS, I select for that type and delete them all in one shot.

 

This is of course after I've made sure to log them all on geocaching.com with the right date, whether found or not-found.
