ptownhunters2
I am thinking about getting a Garmin Oregon 200 for geocaching. Any advice out there? Does anybody have one? Basically I am looking to get a unit for under $300. Have geocached before using a car GPS...painful. Advice greatly appreciated! Quote Link to comment

The 450 can be bought for around $290 after the Garmin $50 rebate. The 450 can do a lot of things that the 200 can't; compare the 2 on Garmin's site. Plus the 450 screen is suppose to be a little easier to view in some situations. Quote Link to comment
+CortandTrent
x2 on the 450. I just got mine from here last week. Shipped very fast: http://www.thedigitaloasis.com/Shop/Contro...id/0/rid/134139 The screen is so much better, I had a Oregon 300 before. The 3 axis compass is also very nice Edited April 22, 2010 by CortandTrent Quote Link to comment
+Jeep4two
x3 on that 450 there good buddy. That's a very nice price for the 450 and will get you the 3 axis compass, better viewability on the screen, barometric altimeter and it will hold more Geocaches. Or - you could buy my Oregon 400t for $300 Quote Link to comment
+pppingme
I wouldn't get anything less than a 300, or a dakota 20. Both of those have unit to unit xfer capability so once you meet up with other cachers or attend an event, this will be a useful feature. If you want the 3-axis compass, then an Oregon 450 or Dakota 20. Quote Link to comment
bigbad401
I have the Oregon 200 and I love it. That being said, if you have a few extra bucks to spend I would go for the 450. It is newer, better updates from Garmin, and a better screen. Quote Link to comment
+javelina11
x4 on the 450. With the rebate now, an awesome unit. I've had mine for nearly 4 weeks now. love it. Quote Link to comment
+jeepdelfuego
x4 on the 450. With the rebate now, an awesome unit. I've had mine for nearly 4 weeks now. love it. x5 on the 450. I own a 200, which I gave to my wife, and a 300 which I use. The 450 will have a slightly better screen, a better compass, and best of all, the ability to hold 5,000 geocaches. Quote Link to comment
+pppingme
The 450 will have ... the ability to hold 5,000 geocaches. This is up for question. At this time, it does appear that the 450 holds 2000 and only the 550 holds 5000. This is not absolute fact and there is discussion in another thread with testing going on to determine and resolve this question. Queries to Garmin have yielded conflicting answers and it appears that some of the WIKI pages are guessing that the 450 is the same as the 550. The most official answer from Garmin so far appears to be 2000, but it was from a person that was obviously not familiar with geocaching and there is speculation that he could be confusing geocaches (since they get special treatment) with waypoints. I'm also considering a 450, and currently own a 400t, and this is a deciding factor for me. Quote Link to comment
