DannyCaffeine Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 How am I supposed to find the coords to them? And how do I log em once I do find em? Quote
+Borst68 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Go here. http://www.geocaching.com/mark/default.aspx Enter your zip code (or zip code of area you want to search) and click "Go". Select the benchmark you want. Download the .loc file. Once you find it, return to the same page and click on the "Log This Benchmark" link in the upper right. Quote
+Touchstone Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I'd would also recommend taking the Description with you as well. The coordinates can be a fair ways off (by as much as 1/4 of a mile from my experience), and the Description may be the only way of finding the disc in some cases. Good luck! Quote
+JohnE5 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Take a measuring tape at least 25 feet long too. They give directions to locate based on distance from landmarks or the road center. Quote
+adenium Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Looking at the description is good, but look at the user logs if there are any. Sometimes a kind user will post coordinates when he or she finds the mark and a lot of times these are better than what's posted on the benchmark's datasheet. Also look at the user posted pictures. This will give you an idea of what you're looking for. In benchmark recovery, it's common practice to take a closeup photo of the mark and to take one or more photos facing a cardinal direction. I've found the pictures are invaluable in locating some marks that are in places that tend to get covered up with dirt or vegetation. Good luck and happy hunting. Quote
+Knight2000 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Here is some helpful info. Search for adjusted benchmarks first. Quote
