cliffrogers
G'day. I found a benchmark in Australia. Is there anything I can do with it? Is anybody interested? It was about 20 metres from (Kings) Outlook. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=32334 I have noted it's position & taken a couple of photo's Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
See if you can get a database of the coords and location descriptions of all the benchmarks from the government. How about posting a benchmark pic to that cache? I'd love to see what an Australian benchmark looks like. Quote Link to comment

Can I put this find up as a virtual cache for now or should I just put it in the logs of the cache that's very close to it? Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
Well for now, you could just post the pic to the cache you already logged. A virtual cache for the benchmark is a great idea and when you make it, you could delete the pic from the other cache and put it with your virtual cache. Quote Link to comment
cliffrogers
I'll post again here once I have the pics up. Catchya, Cliff. Quote Link to comment

+headmj
From reading the mark it looks like Queensland placed the mark and probably maintains the database. You could check with them to see if the data is on-line or if yu can get a copy of their database. I bet they would put it up here if you can get it. Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
Here's an interesting link. There are some actual benchmark data linked there. Also click on "Products" on the top of the page. [This message was edited by Black Dog Trackers on October 22, 2002 at 12:01 PM.] Quote Link to comment
+ooga booga
Buried deep in the PDF of their annual catalog of available products, I came across this: quote:National Geodetic Database (NGDB) The NGDB is a national archive of about 23 000 geodetic survey marks of national interest, in Australia and its external territories (including Antarctica[!]). Coordinates of these marks are held in terms of the Geocentric Datum of Australia, as well as the two previous versions of the Australian Geodetic Datum, (AGD66 and AGD84) and some other Australian coordinate systems. Coordinates in the offshore territories are in terms of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). Not all stations have coordinates in all datums. State and Territory agencies can supply recent and additional information for their areas of responsibility. Coverage: Australia and Territories Currency: 1966 - 2002 Coordinates: Geographical and Grid Datum: GDA, AGD, ITRF and some older datums Format: Text, CSV RRP: On request I take that last part to mean either that you have to get in touch with them to find out the cost, or more likely, that they'll provide a free copy to anyone who asks. This looks promising... Quote Link to comment
cliffrogers
G'day. This page has what is available & for what price. There is a lot of free stuff but as yet, I haven't found one that has my mark on it. datasets This page has the free stuff I'm going to keep looking. Is this the sort of stuff that benchmarking is all about? Catchya, Cliff. Quote Link to comment

QUOTE] If you go to the links in my last post you will find some info that is available for free. They don't have much yet & what they do have is a bit techo IE: surveyor type stuff. I've been too busy with work to follow it any further. Catchya, Cliff. Quote Link to comment
