BeachBum22
Amazing what you can find when you start looking.... After last weeks discussion of big white X's for aerial mapping, I started seeing things I haven't seen before. Like faded big while L's on the road near the beach. Today I stopped to look at one to see if it had a nail, and found it was accompanied by faded pink paint - numbers and arrows. So I started following the arrows. I found five benchmarks in about one mile of road by the beach, none of which I could find in the NGS database when searching by stamping and/or location. One even had a witness post - near a parking lot I've driven thru a thousand times - that I never noticed. There are two documented markers in the NGS database on the same stretch or road that I have not been able to find yet. Which makes me wonder how many thousands of markers there are in the U.S. that never made it to the NGS database. So I guess the moral is when you drive down the road, don't just look for witness posts, look for Pink Paint Pictures are here if anyone is interested. NIDB004 thru NIDB007. Quote Link to comment
