Problem with Explorist 210

Hello. I bought a Magellan Explorist 210 a few years ago, went out & found my 1st and only cache & then circumstances prevented me from doing more. I'm ready to give it a go again, but seem to be having a problem with my Explorist. According to the manual, whenever I set a GOTO route & am on the Compass screen, I'm supposed to have a little icon outside the compass showing the direction the cache is located. But most of the time, I have no icon. Every now & then, it will show up, but it usually disappears quickly. Without that icon, how am I supposed to know where to go? Any suggestions?

Sorry about putting in the wrong forum.

Yes, I am outside & seem to have good satellite reception.

My husband did discover that we could get the icon to show up if we set the GOTO from the cursor on the map screen. The only problem with this, was that you have to press the accept button while it's on the cursor, so it wasn't very accurate because you tend to move the cursor a bit as you're pressing it. So we could do it 5 times & get 5 different readings several hundred feet apart.

We did manage to find the 2 caches we were looking for today using the coordinates. But I'd like for my son to be able to use the compass. It did seem like we could do a regular GOTO (the icon not showing though) and I believe if you were walking the right direction the compass was pointing straight up. I'm not completely positive because my husband was messing with it more than I was, but from the little I had it, that seemed to be the case. Does anyone know if that is the case? The icon would be easier, but that would still work as a work around.

Thanks!

I've had two Explorist and my mother had one. I noticed that if I used the arrow on the map to point at the cache and hit GoTo it would be off more often than not. I alway hit Goto, make sure that it says nearest at the bottom (if not scroll right to change), scroll to Geocaching Points and enter, on Position hit enter, now scroll to the cache you want and hit enter. Now you can follow it to the cache. I never have used the compass screen so I can;t answer that part. I prefer to use the map screen to navigate.
