Several of these benchmarks that I read are encased in a box X number of cm under ground covered by a lid. Just how heavy are the lids anyway? The size I've seen mostly is a nine inch iron cover. (Besides, carrying a crowbar around Cleveland will get you some strang looks.)

You can lift these with a good strong stick by inserting it in the hole in the center. A good medium-to-hefty screwdriver will serve the purpose well. Here's a
