+Green Toad
Is there a way to search for BM's by age? I apologize if this has been asked before. -gt -Stroh -Technology...I have no idea what I would do without my GPSr, my TiVo, or my Computer with a broadband connection. I guess I would spend more time with my wife! Quote Link to comment
+walkietalkie
Never ask a benchmark its age. Face to face Do you mean downright finding in chronicaligcol order is utterly impossible! I'd sue you if I was that insane. Quote Link to comment
+dino_hunters
The easiest way I have found is to download a county Archive datasheet from the NGS. This has every BM in a county. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/datasheet.prl Then use the program BMGPX, to convert it to a gpx file. http://parkrrrr.com/ Next open the gpx file in Watcher. Then you can sort by date. http://clayjar.com/ Quote Link to comment
+seventhings
Well, you also have the problem of what you mean by "age". Some marks are a lot older than is indicated by their official (Monumented) dates. For example, KV4984 (Sandy Hook, NJ Lighthouse) was monumented (observed) in 1835, but was constructed in 1764. HU1686 (Bound Mon E-W 20 DE-MD) was set in 1751 or 52, but not monumented until the 20th Century. If you are talking about absolute age, you often have to consult sources other than NGS or Geocaching to get pre-monumented history. Two good sources are the Delaware Geological Society at www.udel.edu/dgs and the Mason-Dixon Line Preservation Partnership (MDLPP) at www.eawebview.com/masondixon/mdlpp. Quote Link to comment
