Naughty Swag

I haven't seen any logs by non-cachers, but I did trash out a tasteless item in a cache a while back. It basically was an item left behind with an explicit request and a phone number to go with it.

No, I didn't call the number :D

That post make me think about the most inappropriate thing I've ever found in a cache: a bud, a lighter, and rolling paper. My 4 year old saw the bud and exclaimed, "what is a weed doing in the cache!?!?" (weed! LOL!) and threw it over his shoulder. A friend who was with us went diving for the bud as it flew through the air saying, "just because it shouldn't be in a cache, doesn't mean it should go to waste!" B)

What's the most inappropriate thing YOU'VE ever found, and what did you do?

Never found anything "naughty" but I found an old rusty fishing lure in a cache once. What kind of an idiot puts rusty hooks in a cahce?? I'm just glad my kids weren't with on that one. The last thing I want is my 1.5 year old with a trebble hook stuck in her hand.

found a condom once. fortunately it was still wrapped and not a used one.

OH that reminds me of a log, didn't find naughty swag in it but...

Both bugs are gone, I'm learning my lesson about chasing bugs and scouting out a place before I let my kids come with me.

I should have checked the bugs logs, they have been MIA 62 days.

Dad whats that blanket doing here?

Dad why did somebody hang her panties in a tree?

Dad what are those...

Chucked the blanket and dainties. The other however, called the sheriffs department and let 'em know they needed to get community service there. I ain't touching those ...

Haven't seen any out in the field but looking for geocoins on e-bay there were multiple listings marketing geonuts. Basically a key-chain sized version of what some people hang off the back of their trucks. The listing marketed them as a perfect trackable. Kinda wierd, and not something I would want a child pulling out of a cache!

It wasn't IN the cache, but I found it nearby while looking for the cache: 1 bag of women's under garments (in multiple colors & styles) and 2 bags of adult magazines. I didn't have room to CITO them in my kit.

Something like that should be turned over to the police.

Can I start the flame war on how condoms aren't inappropriate? Can I, huh, huh? We haven't had one about those in several months now! :D

I was going to, but didn't have the energy.

I don't think caches are a good place for condoms. Extreme temperature changes can cause the latex to degrade, and exposure to the elements might also damage the packaging.

Yup. Were they hidden at all, or just out in the open? That's actually really strange the more I think about it.

A viagra pen lol. Like the ones that the doctors have as promotionals. I was tempted to take it but I figured that it wasn't that big a deal. If it was condoms or some thing like a knife/lighter I would probably have CITO'd them (with gloves of course lol).

Plus the tempature changes can damage the latex in condoms causing them to get microscopic holes and break more easly.

I don't think I've ever seen anything 'naughty', but knives, a pack of cigarettes, and recently one of those paint scrapers that uses a razor blade as a replaceable edge. I wondered what went through the person's head as they dropped the razor in there- "Gee, won't the next person be surprised when they reach in!?"

Mostly matches, lighters, cigarettes, knives and food.... All of which I remove.

The best naughty item I've ever found and still have in my sig items and interesting swag case is a Penthouse centerfold of a really hot Asian woman. Back in 2004 this was.....

I think it kinda influenced me.

I found some "personal lubricant" in a cache once. I had to laugh because the cache was named "Miss Slick". It had nothing to do with the contents, it was themed for a female poker player who earned that nickname as a slick card player. I laughed at the irony, as probably did the person who left it in the cache. ;)

I think it is more disturbing that your 4yo kid knows what weed is. I'm over 30 and I wouldn't be able to tell weed from catnip or the spices in my cabinet.

This wasn't found in the cache last night but it was within 20' of GZ. There are some city supplied bike racks near by and someone had taken a Trojan Magnum condom and placed it on the pole of the bike rack. The 21 year old daughter of my caching partner noticed it so we had to give her a ribbing about it....:)

Ribbed for your pleasure. :anibad::blink::laughing::);)

It wasn't in the ammo can, as it wouldn't have fit, but very very close. So close in fact that one of my caching partners was about to examine it more closely to see if it was the cache until I found the proper item.

It was... the largest pleasure device I have ever seen in my life. About the size of my arm from the elbow down, light chocolate colored, and the most disturbing part was that it had been repaired with silver duct tape. :anibad:

I think this wins the prize. My geopal still has the picture of it, with my foot alongside for scale, saved on his phone. ;)

Oh no, he has no idea what Weed is. He actually though it was a weed. Like all the foliage we bushwacked through to get to the cache. Like, "why did someone put a dead flower in the cache". I just thought it was hilarious that he declared it "a weed" considering the slang...

But don't be so judgmental anyway  For all you know I have cancer and a medical Mary Jane card. People in glass houses shouldn't get stoned. Wait... how does that go again? :anibad:

I've CITO'd religious propaganda from caches on a few occasions. I don't understand why some cachers insist on polluting the game with their personal agendas.

Or polluting the forums with their personal agendas

It's a little more difficult to put a lengthy religious or political rant in the forum, because the forum is moderated. People can leave pamphlets and books in geocaches with little or no consequence.

Sure, some people sneak their propaganda into forum comments, but this forum isn't that bad. One has to expect a certain amount of that silliness in any forum where the majority of users are from a country with a highly-charged public discourse surrounding religion and politics. A lot of it is just part of the vernacular to those saying it, though it comes off as an agenda to those of us who live elsewhere.

Very well said! Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it narcissa person? ;)

Being devoutly Agnostic, I see no harm in religious items in caches as long as it's one to three of the same tract and any other tracts in the same cache are different. I found 50+ of the same tract in one of my caches and removed all but 3.

There is a cacher in these forums who claims to have rediscovered his faith through a tract found in a cache. That's cool with me. I found inspiration in a cache once.... :anibad:

I met her in 2005 and married her in 2007....

You really don't see how your comments are pushing your own anti-religious agenda? I saw the topic and knew someone was going to post something about religious material. The topic is about "Naughty" swag. The fact that you brought religion into the topic shows your agenda.

Again, well said.

There are some great religious discussions going on in off topic. All we gotta do is revive one of them.....

The text of the original post referred more generally to "inappropriate" items. I haven't found any atheism pamphlets in a cache, but I'd remove those too. People should feel secure in knowing they can visit a cache with their child and not worry about the contents. Depending on the material and the person finding it, a religious or anti-religious pamphlet could be as (if not more) upsetting to a parent as pornography.

I'd also consider political materials or advertisements inappropriate, but I have rarely, if ever, encountered those things.

I found a sticker once that said "Buck Fush." It's one of my favorite swag trades.

Seriously? How naive is THAT?

When my my son gets interested in caching, I will ALWAYS worry about the contents. I've been to enough caches to know that I should worry.

But I will never worry about having to explain religion or sex to him. I would jump at the opportunity if it happened at a cache. His ears are more likely to stay open if he's doing something he likes. ;)

Yes, perhaps naive to hope that caches can stay family-friendly for everyone, but I can hope. There are enough competing and confusing messages all around us that there's no lack of opportunity to bring up sex, politics, and religion. But still, I'd prefer that my son's first introduction to sex NOT be a nasty close-up in a cache. So I will continue to remove inappropriate materials from caches as a courtesy to other parents.

Your implying that religious items are somehow not "Family Friendly" ? Oh dear mommy! God loves me, i'm frightened!

God bless you! (Hope that didn't offend you)

Finding myself in the somewhat odd position of defending a post by Narcissa, I don't think that was the point she was trying to make.

How could you not read that from what she wrote? She finds the material objectionable and along the same lines of sexual content in a cache. How exactly should I being reading it?
