The Local news had an article tonite on what is called the Bomb Kit @ 14,000.00 apiece.Included are would you believe an E-TREX GPSr,a scanner, communication device and a lap top that is dishwasher safe...Wow..thats neat. Each bomb team throughout the country is being out fitted with this kit.So I guess the federal agencies use E-Trex too..

Someone who visits here and is a bomb tech for our department (I won't mention any names since they do not wish their identity revealed) has one of these brand new kits in their patrol unit. The kit has a Vista in it. The laptop comes complete with a wireless card. The purpose of the kit is so that an x-ray can be taken of a suspect device then the x-ray, complete with coordinates of the device can be transmitted to the Feds, so that they may review the device in question. By using this method it is possible for a local EOD person have someone else review the device and receive help/opinions in minutes, not hours. Should the device be military in origin, the Army EOD folks can be flown to the area closest to the device in question. It is a great thing and can save time and lives. FWIW, the regular Panasonic Toughbooks that are assigned to us for use in our patrol units are basically dishwasher safe and can take a lot of abuse. Cheers!
