Pooks, thanks for that nudge, pre-occupied has a new meaning these days.

Without further adieu, The winner for the second round of the photo competition is.... (drum rolls)

Hesamati for his rendition of “ Green Promise”

What drew me to this image was the contrasts and emotions that it generated.

I would like to congratulate all the other entrants for the awesome pics submitted, it was a tough one to judge , special mention for :

CapeDoc - The Devil Makes himself at home

Globalrat - Villiers Sunset

Rhino and hedgehog - Cathedral Peak

the pooks - tankwa

Their pics were the runners up (in no particular order)

Hesamati, you have the honour of being the next judge..

What geocachers get up to for a smiley!

PS: There was a time when I objected to this fancy way of referencing (making the image clickable) as it did not feel intuitive to me, but I have succumbed and followed Capedoc's instructions as per post #88, and now that I have gone through the process, maybe it is quite a good method. Alternatively one could say My Log for In the Pipeline

Only 3 photos submitted in June. Two refer directly to the (somewhat weird) activities surrounding caching while the 3rd does so more indirectly (not that it was a prerequisite). My favorite (and winner for June) is the quirky, sole-full photo of Pooks - demonstrating his dedication to earn that smiley while having double barrels of fun.

Over to you Pooks.

Thanks Hesamati. Not many entrants though - where are the photographers.

I must say that Seapoint shot of Rhino & Hedgehog struck me as having all sorts of perfect photographic elements in it - I'm not knowledgeable on the terminology but such things such as perspective, rule of thirds, triangles, flowing from one corner come to mind. It is a beautiful shot.

I'll give it a bit more than a month to see if we can't get a few more photo's. Hopefully the topic does not slip off the page or out of our minds!

Let the photo's roll in!

Time to make a call on a winner for July. Difficult one, so I called in the help of Mrs Pooks, not least as the Pooks' photo of the twitching toes in the pipe was taken by her (the toes belong to Mr Pooks). And she votes for Elsies and the Pretoria tree and sun scene. So here goes

1. Pretoria Tree and Sun by Elsies. Beautiful composition and great depth of field.

2. Woodhead dam by Mnco. This was my gut feel choice - I was struck by how peaceful the scene was, and besides it is on top of a mountain, which is close to my heart. A close second in my opinion.

3. Red Bishop by Team Ginger. Birds are notoriously difficult to capture so you can take a bow!

The hippo by Rhino & Hedgehog is quite a frightening shot! An honourable mention to Capedoc and Sawasawa who have submitted photo's - thanks everyone for posting to this thread and keep them coming!

Your turn Elsies!

Hey, I wanna play this game too... :D

I don't know if the pics have to be recent to qualify - if so then ignore this pic which was taken last spring, but I'll share it anyway because I think it's cute.

It's a (camo) crab spider with it's wasp prey. This specific pic was where Mr Gps Storm taught me how to use my camera's macro setting properly.

Thanks Chris - it's a bummer being tech challenged, but you opened some doors for me.

Isn't that what son-in-laws are for....? ;)

The cache is Duiwels Kantoor Exchange Cache and the log was on 24th October 2009

I took this with the cell phone camera at Take a View in a patch of sunlight on an otherwise grey day. Somehow the poor quality of the photo seemed to add to the atmosphere.

Precisely - the subkect matter is what counts - I have also taken some awesome cell phone shots that would have looked pretty horrible if they did not look like cell phone shots!

Try looking up Lomography to see about using cheap plastic "toy" medium format film cameras loved becasue there quality so so bad it is good!!!!! Only thing is those cameras ain;t so cheap!!!! There is a shop at the Biscuit mill which specialises in these kinds of cameras. For about R1500 you can get stated - the cameras are so bad they have become popular and therefore they command a price!

But it is a different way of doing photograpy - cause you never know what you goping to get till you process and print the film. To get a feel try and download a lomography filter or plugin for photshop or gimp or whatever your fave photo suite is. And have fun.........I'll try an post an example later......

Apologies to Fish Eagle - but I ran the lomo script in gimp and you have to appreciate the artistic wuality of the shot now - not so clear colours more saturated. Anyway something to play with - perhaps not the best example but it should give you an idea.
