+Bear and Ragged
On Tuesday, February 23rd starting at 8 PM Pacific Time (GMT -8), we'll be performing upgrades to the Geocaching.com database server in preparation for the increase in Geocaching over the spring and summer months. The expected downtime for this work is 4 hours and during that time, all Geocaching.com services including the web site, Pocket Queries, the Geocaching iPhone application, Geocache Navigator, and other 3rd party applications that access our API, will be inaccessible. We'll have a webpage set up on the Geocaching site with this downtime notice and we'll provide status updates if the downtime exceeds the 4 hour maintenance window. We'll also post updates to this forum thread as well. Thanks, signalsmile.gif Elias linky Quote Link to comment

+Matthew 7:7 Too
I've added FoxClocks to the status bar of my Firefox browser just to keep track of the current time in the UK, Seattle (ie US Pacific Time) and Perth (for GSAK). It saves all the complicated conversions!! Chris Quote Link to comment

+The HERB5
They're probably encrypting all the data so that it only works with GC Apps like Trimble and the iPhone one. Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
The page now says they hope to be up at 1am (9am our time)... Any minuite now, I'm sure. I'll have to get the co-ords for tonight's London event later... Quote Link to comment
+Delta68
Just had a look at the Wherigo site (someone has to! ) Wherigo.com is currently offline while we upgrade our database server in preparation for the increase in Wherigo over the Spring and Summer months. Mark Quote Link to comment
Deceangi
look on the bright side they're preparing for the busy summer period, So that a couple of hours now that you can't access GC will mean that you don't face what used to be a regular experience The database crashing due to the extremely high work load, meant the servers could not cope. Something those who have been members for years will remember with horror Something we don't see now days Also their backing up the database, which from the sounds of it, its a extensive backup and not the usual backup that is taken. In all the time I've been a member [and that goes way back to 2002 ] I can't remember anyone ever complaining that their cache data had been lost. That's because Groundspeak Staff work extremely hard to insure it does not happen. So a few hours of no access is a small price to pay for that. And I do believe it does say all Groundspeak sites on the current landing page Oh and Maintenance is usually at the time of the lowest level of hits to the Database, which is about 08:00 GMT. +Haggis Hunter
At least they now have information on why you can't get access. When it happened on a weekly basis you just didn't get anything at all. Quote Link to comment
+Haggis Hunter
It's back Quote Link to comment

+HazelS
Hmmm it's back, but I can't get anywhere past one click on it.... It's just frozen, and since the rest of my t'interweb is fine, I'm concluding it must be GC.com! Quote Link to comment
+drdick&vick
Seems to be working ok for me. Quote Link to comment
