+Cachealot
While out caching today, I found a discarded marine battery near a cache that was about a mile hike from my car. Yes, I carried the dang thing out. Felt like it weighed 50 pounds by the time I got back to the trailhead. What I couldn't figure out was while the trail was in the area of a lake, it was nowhere near the water. Why was it a mile down a hiking trail and who would have carried it there? Anyway, while we only did 5 caches today, we got 2 full bags of garbage in additon to the battery. It's amazing how much trash is out there. Quote Link to comment
+DustyJacket
Good job! Those batteries can be an ecological mess. (I've found that collecting trash is a great disguise while caching amongst the geo-muggles.) DustyJacket ...If life was fair, a banana split would cure cancer. Quote Link to comment
+Cachealot
That's true. Someone came walking by after we had just replaced a cache and were picking up garbage. Strangely enough, she said, "Looking for treasure?" and I said, "No, just picking up trash." To which she replied, "Oh! Thank you!" Quote Link to comment
+Kouros
Funny you should say that about the battery... the thing I keep on noticing down trails are car parts (ok, admittedly not as odd as marine batteries). But sometimes these are fairly large parts. We're talking exhausts, or car batteries, or whatnot. Things that don't take a lot of effort to move, but have no reason to be there. Now, my thought is always this... someone has gone along way out of their way to dispose of this trash, when it would only take a fraction of the effort to dispose of it properly. The question has to be why? ------ An it harm none, do what ye will Quote Link to comment

I know that in many areas it's illegal to just throw car parts in the trash, and some people may not realize that they could just drop by their local junkyard, or in the case of batteries, motor oil, exhausts, etc the local muffler shop or quick lube place and they would take these items for free. So not knowing what to do they dump the junk somewhere they think it won't be found. I dunno for sure, that's just my best guess. +MissJenn
More people ought to brag about things like this, I think. After all, geocachng is most often done either alone or in very small groups. Who else is gonna tell the rest of the worldwide community? Feel free to brag, folks!!! Quote Link to comment

+Planet
Buttons, lots and lots of buttons, very old and decrepit, some still ok, in what looked to be like an old fire someone made for one burning. Down near the Hudson River at Ttepee's Is The Madam At Home? cache. I thought that was kind of strange. Quote Link to comment
+MissJenn
What'd you do with the buttons? Quote Link to comment
+Planet
What'd you do with the buttons? hehe, I put them all in my pocket and they are in a plastic bag now in my treasure chest. I thought I'd try to use them in a craft project. Quote Link to comment
